Jake Paul has eyed a fight with Canelo for a while, but will instead face one of his former opponents next.
Jake Paul is set to enter the ring for the 13th time on June 28th, against 54-6-1 Julio Cesar Chavez Jr.
Chavez Jr has fought just once in the last four years, against a 1-0 fighter. Before his period of inactivity, Chavez had a mixed 2021, with a win over 34-6 David Zegarra, but a loss to 1-1 former MMA champion Anderson Silva.
Chavez, who slated Tommy Fury, may well be a stepping stone for Paul, in a bid to reach the ultimate goal, Canelo Alvarez.

‘I’m a real killer’… Jake Paul believes he can beat ‘little ginger’ Canelo Alvarez
In an interview with Piers Morgan, Paul, who says he’ll embarrass Chavez Jr, was asked about his upcoming fight, and of the fight that he had leading up to this one, in which Paul defeated an aged and weathered Mike Tyson.
Morgan suggested members of the boxing world were saddened by that match-up, with Canelo being one of those who criticized Paul’s choice of opponent.
On the topic of Canelo, Paul said: “He’s a 5’8″ little pion. If we were in the streets I would grab that little ginger and smack him upside the head and make him forget who the f— he was.”
“People don’t realize, I’m a real killer. I really f—— do this s—. […] This s— is not a joke, I’m knocking out the best of the best.”
Paul promised to be the first to truly beat up Chavez Jr, who has only been stopped twice. Chavez Jr quit against Daniel Jacobs and Andrzej Fonfara. He has never been truly knocked out.
