‘I would love him’ – Chris Eubank Jr opens up on the one hope he has to rebuild ‘not cool’ relationship with Eubank Sr

Chris Eubank Jr has admitted that he would love his father to be involved in the build-up to the potential fight between himself and Conor Benn.

Eubank Jr returned to the ring after 13 months out last weekend, beating Poland’s Kamil Szeremeta on the undercard of Artur Beterbiev’s controversial win against Dmitry Bivol.

He then squared up to Benn inside the ring after his victory and the two are now in talks to make the fight happen, two years on from when it was originally set to take place before Benn tested positive for a banned substance.

Chris Eubank Jr reveals he is not on speaking terms with Eubank Sr

Despite playing a huge role in the early stages of his career, Eubank Jr’s relationship has drifted with his father.

The family suffered the devastating loss of younger brother Sebastian, who died of a heart attack in 2021 and since then, their relationship has strained.

In an emotional conversation on the Ariel Helwani show, Eubank Jr revealed that he barely speaks to his father.

“We don’t talk and he has shown no interest in my career for a long period of time now. He has shown no interest in me in a long period of time,” he said.

“For a long time, I tried to act like it was cool… I got sick of that s***. It’s bulls***. We’re not cool.

“He has gone through a lot over the last few years and he is still dealing with his demons. He thinks certain things are not right or should be in a certain way. He’s not happy and this is how he is dealing with it – by not being in my life.”

Chris Eubank Jr hopes dad will return for Conor Benn showdown

The prospect of Eubank Jr facing Benn has been years in the making.

After the parents of the two, Chris and Nigel, faced off during their boxing glory days, it seemed inevitable their two sons would one day meet.

It now looks like it’s only a matter of time before an official announcement is made and the 35-year-old hopes his dad can be involved.

He added: “I would love him and the fact that I even have to say that is insane.

“I message him every once in a while, sometimes he’ll reply with a one-word answer but there is never a conversation.

“Once my career is done then I can spend time worrying about other people’s feelings. But right now it’s all systems go and I have got to be me.”
