‘I turned it down’… Carl Froch reveals offer to end retirement to fight former UFC star

It’s been almost 11 years since British boxing legend Carl Froch bowed out with a sensational eighth-round KO over George Groves in front of 80,000 screaming fans at Wembley Stadium.

And if you’ve been keeping up with ‘The Cobra’ on social media of late, you’ll know that the former super-middleweight world champion, now at 47 years old, is itching to test himself once again.

Well, it turns out that not only has Carl Froch received a sizable offer to end his decade-long retirement, but also against one of the UFCs most popular British superstars.

Carl Froch reveals he turned down fight offer against former UFC star

Over the past few years, Carl Froch has remained open to the idea of stepping into the ring one more time; that would likely be an exhibition bout, given that ‘The Cobra’ is set to celebrate his 48th birthday in just a few months’ time.

Speaking via his official YouTube channel, Froch has now revealed that not only did he recently receive a new fight offer from a well-known combat sports superstar, but that he ‘should have probably took it’.

“I was actually offered the fight with Darren Till, Mams Taylor phoned me up and offered me the fight,” stated Froch, adding that the payday “wasn’t a bad little bit of bunce really.

“I thought to myself I needed at least four weeks in the gym, it was over Christmas, I’d been busy with the family.

“I’d been away skiing, and I thought I’m only going to have a week on British soil and one week is not enough even for ‘The Cobra’, former unified world champion Hall of Famer to go in there and bash up someone who can’t fight like Darren Till.”

Till, who fought for UFC welterweight gold in 2018, took on Anthony ‘Pretty Boy’ Taylor in the main event of Misfits X Series 20 last weekend – scoring a brutal sixth-round knockout over the American.

“I turned it down, [but] I should have probably took it to be honest,” admitted the former professional boxer, adding how he’d “only need a couple of rounds of shadow boxing to beat Darren Till.”

Darren Till teases potential ‘Problem Child’ fight in the Summer

In the past 24 hours, Till has posted on social media hinting that he’s still open to facing the former world champion – writing “Let’s fight Carl” on his X account.

Whilst a Froch vs Till showdown would draw solid numbers here in the UK, Till has also recently teased that he could have a ‘Problem Child’ on his hands later this year.

“Just had some potential big fight news [that] could happen in the Summer,” Till wrote on his social media pages after his KO win over Taylor, adding the hashtags “#Anfield #JP #Paul #Jake”.

Jake Paul’s next opponent has not yet been confirmed, although his promotion, Most Valuable Promotions, did release an Instagram story around the same time as Till’s post.

The story includes a picture of Paul in Saudi Arabia with the caption, “Announcement in January.”
