‘He wasn’t crawling to the scales’… Former world champion blasts Keyshawn Davis for failing to make weight

Keyshawn Davis missed weight by four pounds, leading to the cancellation of his fight with Edwin De Los Santos and the removal of his world title.

Keyshawn Davis won the WBO lightweight title in his last fight against Denys Berinchyk, the king of ringwalks, and has already lost it, without ever making a title defense.

Davis lost his title on the scales as he failed to make weight for his fight with Edwin De Los Santos. He weighed in at 139.3 pounds, 4.3 pounds over the limit.

One former world champion has blasted Davis, and believes he didn’t even try to make the weight.

Tim Bradley slams Keyshawn Davis for not even trying to make weight

Former world champion Tim Bradley has shared his view on Davis’ weight miss, which cost him his world title.

He admits that fighters do grow out of their weight classes, but believes that was not the case here:

“He is a big 135-pounder and he’s been at 135 his entire career. However, he’s been busy, it’s not like he’s been sitting for two years. […] He should’ve been able to make that weight or even come closer to that weight.”

Bradley continued: “Four pounds? That’s an embarrassment, man.”

“If you’re crawling on all fours to the scales, I’m saying ‘Damn, he tried to make the weight but it was too much for him’, but he wasn’t crawling to the scales, at all.”

Keyshawn Davis lost four times as an amateur to one hungry prospect

As an amateur, Davis accumulated a record of 78-13, but was beaten four times by one man, his biggest rival.

Davis lost on four separate occasions to Andy Cruz, a Cuban fighter who is now a 5-0 professional awaiting his fight with Hironori Mishiro, in an IBF eliminator.

Cruz may face Raymond Muratella next if he wins, as Lomachenko’s retirement benefits Cruz.

Though Davis never got the best of Cruz, he is open to a rematch in the pros.
