‘He hasn’t done nothing’… Gervonta Davis snubs Turki Alalshikh’s desire to deliver unification with lightweight rival

Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis has ruled out a potential career-defining showdown ahead of his WBA world lightweight title defense against Lamont Roach on March 1.

The 30-year-old comes off a typically destructive performance over Frank Martin, nailing his slick opponent with a blistering combination in the eighth round.

But instead of chasing the biggest fights in his division, ‘Tank’ is now gearing up to face WBA super featherweight titlist Roach at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

With the pair headlining an Amazon Prime pay-per-view card, too, boxing fans have largely expressed their frustration over how Davis’ promising career is unfolding.

Turki Alalshikh looks to deliver a unification between Gervonta Davis and Shakur Stevenson

With Roach moving up in weight to square off against one of the sport’s most murderous punchers, fans are hardly holding their breath in anticipation.

Rather, the mouthwatering clash that everyone wants to see is a unification between Gervonta Davis and WBC lightweight titlist Shakur Stevenson.

It is, after all, a matchup that makes perfect sense, with Stevenson offering a versatile skillset that could be the antidote for Davis’ pulverizing power.

In the meantime, the 27-year-old will defend his strap against highly touted prospect Floyd Schofield on February 22, returning to the ring for the first time since sustaining his hand injury.

After that, Stevenson is expected to take on mandatory challenger William Zepeda, who is ranked number one at lightweight by all four sanctioning bodies.

But still, boxing power broker Turki Alalshikh has told DAZN that he intends to deliver a monumental dustup between Davis and Stevenson.

Gervonta Davis insists that Keyshawn Davis looks ‘way better’ than Shakur Stevenson

Unfortunately for boxing fans, ‘Tank’ has insisted that he has no intentions to fight Stevenson, making his feelings known at yesterday’s press conference for his upcoming assignment against Roach.

Davis told Fight Hub TV: “What has Shakur done? What has he done in the sport? He hasn’t done nothing.

“Keyshawn Davis is looking way better than him, and Keyshawn hasn’t even done nothing. I’m afraid of what? For us fighters to be afraid of someone it has to be someone who’s hitting us and hurting us.

“He doesn’t have no offence, everything is defence. Defence only wins in basketball and football. That s*** don’t win in boxing.”

If nothing else, it is interesting that Davis has mentioned rising star Keyshawn Davis, who comes off an emphatic second-round stoppage over Gustavo Lemos.

Since then, the 25-year-old has been heavily linked with a potential title shot against WBO lightweight champion Denys Berinchyk, setting up an alternative unification for ‘Tank’ should he emerge victorious.
