‘He didn’t bring any new tools’… Boxing legend refuses to mince his words on Daniel Dubois’ rematch with Oleksandr Usyk

Oleksandr Usyk outclassed, dropped, and stopped Daniel Dubois in their rematch for the undisputed heavyweight crown.

Oleksandr Usyk is now a two-time undisputed heavyweight champion after snatching Daniel Dubois‘ IBF title with a big fifth-round TKO victory in their rematch.

Usyk has now beaten Daniel Dubois, Anthony Joshua, and Tyson Fury twice each.

Many believed Dubois would enter the fight with elevated confidence after his wins over AJ, Jarrell Miller, and Filip Hrgovic, but after a 70-person party at Dubois’ house, ‘Dynamite’ seemed to have no answer for the Ukrainian elite.

One boxing legend has criticized Dubois’ performance and believes there is nothing he can do to beat Usyk.

Roy Jones Jr is brutally honest on Daniel Dubois’ latest performance

In an interview with IFL TV, Roy Jones Jr. spoke on Dubois vs Usyk 2, and said,

“I don’t like to talk bad about nobody, but like I told people before the fight, if I stop you with a jab, you’re never gonna beat me. The first time Usyk beat him with a jab. It’s very hard for you to make him believe, no matter what he went through, that he’s gonna come back and beat Usyk.”

“He tried, he gave his best shot, but he didn’t have no new tools, he didn’t bring nothing new to the race. If you lose the race you need to bring something new.”

Jones believes the only person who could possibly give Usyk any trouble is Joseph Parker.

When asked about Dubois’ future, Jones said,

“Joshua had him in trouble, Lerena had [Dubois] down two or three times, I mean, come on man, once you’ve made the money he made this past weekend, what else is there to prove. […] You still probably would have a hard time beating Usyk, if you ever get another shot.”

Jones seems to be suggesting Dubois has nothing else to prove in attempting to reach the top of the sport again, and should consider retirement or face lower level opposition.

Tony Bellew, Dave Allen, and Derek Chisora all believe Dubois quit against Usyk, marking his third loss as a result of quitting.

Daniel Dubois had nothing but praise for Oleksandr Usyk after their fight

Despite coming up short for the second time, Dubois had nothing but respect for his opponent.

He said following the loss, “I have to commend him on the performance, I gave everything I had. There was probably a few things I could’ve sharpened up on but we take no credit away from the man, I’ll be back.”

Dubois is only 27 years of age, so talk of retirement seems to be a reach unless Dubois has lost his passion for the sport, especially since Usyk will likely vacate the belts within a couple of years, giving Dubois more chances to become a unified or even undisputed champion.
