‘Happy for you’… Pound for pound star congratulates Oleksandr Usyk on Tyson Fury victory

Oleksandr Usyk defeated Tyson Fury for a second time to continue his reign at the top of the heavyweight division.

After beating Fury to become the first undisputed heavyweight champion since Lennox Lewis in 1999, the Ukrainian agreed to a rematch against the ‘Gypsy King’.

Fighting in the Kingdom Arena in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia – the same location as their first bout – the outcome was the same again as Usyk reigned supreme.

Frank Warren was left incensed by the scorecards while Tyson Fury walked straight out of the ring before later stating he should’ve won by three rounds but for the 37-year-old from Ukraine, he proved why he is one of the best heavyweight boxers of 2024.

The likes of Shakur Stevenson praised Usyk for his win in Saudi and he was joined by one of the best pound-for-pound boxing stars in celebrating the win.

Terence Crawford sends Oleksandr Usyk personal message after Tyson Fury win

When you think of pound-for-pound stars in boxing right now, Oleksandr Usyk and Terence Crawford are two names that stand out.

Both in the wrong side of their 30s, Usyk and ‘Bud’ have been generational talents and proved themselves at multiple weights.

Greatness recognizes greatness and that was no different after the fight when Crawford posted a message on X that read: “Congratulations Usyk. Happy for you.”

Who will Oleksandr Usyk’s next fight be against?

Despite being 37, it seems that Usyk has no plans to retire any time soon.

The Ukrainian stated that he wants to rest and spend time with his family before deciding who his next opponent will be.

Daniel Dubois called him out in the ring and both Usyk and Turki Alalshikh seemed keen to make it happen.

An unlikely trilogy against Anthony Joshua, whose scorecard caused some controversy may also be an option.

One idea that has been touted is the possibility of the pound-for-pound star moving back down to cruiserweight and facing Jai Opetaia, who has been taking the division by storm and is tipped to make the move to heavyweight in the future.
