‘Got lucky’… Terence Crawford, Jake Paul, Shakur Stevenson and more fighters react to controversial Gervonta Davis result

On Saturday, Gervonta Davis escaped New York with his undefeated record just about intact after he and Lamont Roach Jr fought to a majority draw.

WBA Super Featherweight champion, Lamont Roach Jr moved up to Lightweight on Saturday to challenge Gervonta Davis for his 135lb title.

Ahead of his fight against Roach Jr, Davis has openly talked about retirement and has admitted that he will retire at the end of 2025.

Despite that, he will now likely have another fight against Roach Jr after the 29-year-old handed him his first blemish on his record after a controversial draw was scored.

Terence Crawford and several other fighters react to controversial Gervonta Davis result

‘Tank’ Davis is quite an outspoken fighter when it comes to social media, but just like many other fighters in the boxing world, he has overcome a lot of adversity to get where he is in his career.

Although he was scheduled to face Lamont Roach Jr, Davis has been locked into a feud with Shakur Stevenson, and they seem to be setting up for a blockbuster lightweight title fight.

Stevenson was one of several fighters that reacted to Davis’ controversial draw against Roach Jr this past Saturday. Shakur claimed that he made ‘at least $20k’ by betting on Roach Jr in the fight.

“And if Lamont can’t get a rematch I got a big fight for him and a world title shot against me… that’s my bro but we can definitely make something happen,” Stevenson said on X.

Welterweight champion, Terence Crawford also reacted to Davis’ performance, saying: “Roach won and that should’ve been called a knockdown, let’s see.

“They robbed that boy and it’s crazy. I never seen someone take a knee and they don’t count it as a knock down. Must’ve forgot the rules tonight,” he said on X.

In the ninth round, ‘Tank’ took a knee after a few heavy shots from Roach Jr. However, the referee didn’t rule it as a knockdown as Davis went over to his corner and claimed that he had grease in his eye from his hair.

A few hours ahead of the lightweight title fight, Jake Paul claimed that he would ‘destroy’ Davis, despite admitting that he ranks ‘Tank’ as one of his top 5 current fighters.

“Gervonta has my respect. Inside the ring, he comes to fight. 1 of the top 5 in the world right now. Outside the ring, he is standing on his own and representing America,” Paul said on X.

Also reacting to the controversial draw was WBC Super Lightweight champion, Devin Haney.

“31-0 ya b—-,” Haney reminded Davis of his own record following Davis’ first blemish.

Will Gervonta Davis rematch Lamont Roach Jr?

Despite the controversy of Saturday night and both fighters having called for an immediate rematch, ‘Tank’ admitted to the press after the fight that he doesn’t think a rematch will come next.

“It’s definitely the one I want next. But it’s not going to be next,” Davis said, likely referring to the collision course he and Stevenson are on.

Consensus savior of boxing, Turki Alalshikh seems keen on making the fight between Davis and Stevenson and ‘Tank’ is seemingly on board despite wanting a rematch against Roach Jr.
