Gervonta Davis defends world champion rival accused of ducking him

Gervonta Davis is set to face Lamont Roach on March 1st, and, if he succeeds, there will be a whole host of fighters waiting to face ‘Tank’ next.

Gervonta Davis has built a name for himself as one of the most destructive forces in not only the lightweight division but in boxing as a whole.

The Baltimore native has a record of 30-0, with only 2 of his opponents ever hearing the final bell. The only opponent Davis has failed to stop since 2014 is Isaac ‘Pitbull’ Cruz.

Tank, who holds a win over Ryan Garcia, is fighting on March 1st in Brooklyn against Lamont Roach. Roach has a record of 25-1-1 and has only been defeated by Jamel Herring, who Shakur Stevenson KO’d in the tenth round of their bout.

Though fans are excited to see Davis back in action, given his last fight was in June last year against Frank Martin, some are critical of his choice of opponent, and suggest Davis must face the top names in the division if he is to cement himself in the list of pound-for-pound elites.

There is one fighter fans have called for Davis to fight for years, but it seems the fight should have happened years ago, as the world champion is now wavering with his love of the sport.

Gervonta Davis knows Vasyl Lomachenko is not afraid of him

Vasiliy Lomachenko currently holds the IBF world title after defeating George Kambosos Jr. The 18-3 champ is known for his unbelievable amateur record of 396 wins and only one loss, which he avenged.

As a champion, however, he has not been able to replicate quite this amount of success. Fighting for a world title in just his second fight, Lomachenko fell short on a split decision.

Since then, he has lost to Teofimo Lopez and Devin Haney in what many describe as a highly controversial decision.

Lomachenko and Davis have been paired together for years in the minds of fans, but it was only recently that the fight looked set to be made.

However, Loma’s manager, Egis Klimas revealed that: “Loma is not in the mood right now, he doesn’t have the motivation at the moment.”

Speaking to Lil Yachty on his podcast ‘A Safe Place’, Tank defended Loma from accusations of ducking the fight, telling the rapper:

“They were saying that he was scared. I don’t think that’s the case. He reached that point where as though it’s hard for him to get up for a fight.”

Gervonta Davis’ next opponent could be decided on Valentine’s Day

Though Davis must first get past Roach, all eyes are on what the future holds for the explosive fighter.

With Shakur Stevenson locking horns with Floyd Schofield in February, there is potential for the winner of that fight to face Tank next.

Alternatively, this Valentine’s Day will see the undefeated 12-0 Keyshawn Davis challenge for Denys Berinchyk’s WBO world title. Keyshawn has called out Tank Davis multiple times before.

Davis’ opponent, Berinchyk, the king of ringwalks, is adamant that the belt will remain with him, but if Davis is successful, an all-American Davis vs Davis fight could be perfect for Tank’s next fight after March 1st.

Logan Paul has spoken of a fight with Davis, suggesting he would win brutally.

It is possible however that Davis hangs up the gloves for good, with Shakur Stevenson calling Tank’s retirement update ‘lame’.
