Former heavyweight boxing champion ends retirement to win bare-knuckle debut at 46 years old

From facing Dillian Whyte and Dave Allen to fighting bare-knuckle at the age of 46, one heavyweight fighter seems set to fight on despite his age.

Bare-knuckle boxing has seen an influx of talent in recent years, with many fighters transitioning from boxing to the rising sport.

Canelo’s former foe, Austin Trout is a BKFC champion, and Jack Cullen, ‘Little Lever’s Meat Cleaver’, also made the jump to bare-knuckle recently, winning his debut.

Most recently, James DeGale has announced a bare-knuckle fight against Matty Floyd.

Some have been less successful, though, as female boxer Hannah Rankin was knocked out in one round of her recent bare-knuckle bout. Frankie Gavin was stopped in 40 seconds in his debut, too.

Recently, there has been one more addition to the sport, with Aussie heavyweight Lucas Browne entering the triangle at the age of 46.

Lucas Browne wins bare-knuckle debut by stoppage

31-6 Lucas Browne left the sport of boxing in 2024 after three stoppage losses in a row, each worse than the one before.

The Aussie lost first to Jarrell Miller in six rounds, then Mark Petrovsky in four, then Hemi Ahio in one.

Former WBA Regular champion Browne has since moved on from boxing and made his bare-knuckle debut, where he faced Corey Harrison on a BKB show.

Browne inflicted a serious cut on Harrison in the very first round that forced the fight to be stopped in the Aussie’s favor, marking his first win in the new sport.

Lucas Browne once defeated a boxing legend

Though Browne is far removed from his glory days, he does have some impressive moments to look back on.

In 2016, Browne did Australia proud as he became the WBA Regular champion with a win over Ruslan Chagaev, who had defeated the seven-foot giant Nikolai Valuev.

Years before that, though, Browne faced a boxing legend in the final years of his career – James Toney.

In 2013, 15-0 Browne was matched against 74-7-3 Toney, who had shared the ring with the likes of Evander Holyfield, Hasim Rahman, Roy Jones Jr., Iran Barkley, and John Ruiz.

Browne defeated Toney via unanimous decision, as the faded legend began to close out an amazing career.
