‘For the future’…Daniel Dubois welcomes challenge of 20-year-old prospect

Daniel Dubois is set to defend his IBF World Heavyweight title on February 22nd but has taken notice of the in-form youngster in the division.

Dubois will be aiming to make his second defense of his IBF Heavyweight Championship, having defeated Anthony Joshua in Wembley Stadium in September 2024.

Despite being an underdog in the bout, Dubois was able to dispatch fellow Englishman Joshua in the fifth round.

Up next for ‘DDD’ is Joseph Parker, who is coming off a majority decision victory over Zhilei Zhang. The pair will meet in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia on a stacked February 22nd event.

Although Parker is in Dubois’ immediate sights, he has taken notice of Britain’s rising boxing star in the heavyweight division.

Speaking to Ring Magazine, Dubois spoke on Moses Itauma, who is making waves in the heavyweight division.

Itauma is just 20-years-old, however, many feel that he is capable of winning a world title.

With a record of 11-0, Itauma has nine knockouts on his resume as he is the current WBO Inter-Continental Heavyweight champion.

One of the major talking points surrounding Itauma is the fact he could become the youngest heavyweight champion in the history of boxing, a record currently held by Mike Tyson.

To break Tyson’s record, Itauma would have to win a world heavyweight title by May 19th, 2025.

One man he may have to face to claim a world title is Dubois, who didn’t dismiss a future bout with the prospect.

“I’ve done a few rounds with the kid. He’s lightning, isn’t he? We’re gonna see, it’s a good match-up for the future. To be the first man to stop him, I like the sound of that. Line ’em up,” said Dubois.

Itauma recently called out top heavyweight fighters, although, Dubois was not included in his list.

Daniel Dubois vows to get revenge over Oleksandr Usyk in rematch

A fight with Itauma might be further down the line for Dubois, however, Oleksandr Usyk is an opponent that ‘DDD’ may look to face next should he successfully defeat Parker.

Usyk defeated Dubois in Poland in 2023 in a somewhat controversial affair. However, Dubois is eager to amend his loss in a rematch.

“He got away lucky last time,” Dubois told Sky Sports. “I need to right that wrong and get my revenge.”

Dubois faced Usyk in the ring following the Ukranian’s victory over Tyson Fury in December. Although, it is unclear if the pair will face each other in a rematch in 2025.
