Family rivalry reignited as son of John Fury’s last opponent is set to face Tyson Fury’s cousin

Dan Garber will face Hughie Fury next month and hopes to settle the score in his family rivalry with the Furys.

Hughie Fury continues his attempt to climb the rankings and into title contention as he fights for the fourth time in the past year.

Fury came back in 2024 after almost three years off the sport following his win over Christian Hammer, and is now looking to stay active and get the big fights.

Fury’s record is 29-3, having lost to Alexander Povetkin, Kubrat Pulev, and Joseph Parker.

His next fight will see him face late-replacement, Dan Garber, whose father fought Hughie’s uncle, and the father of Tyson Fury, who shares six opponents in common with Anthony Joshua, and Tommy Fury, whose next opponent is former criminal Matty Floyd – John Fury, in 1995.

Dan Garber’s father handed John Fury brutal knockout defeat

In 1995, Steve Garber fought John Fury in Manchester. Garber held a record of 19-23-1, whilst Fury sat at 8-3-1.

Despite his losses, Garber knocked out Fury in the fourth round of their match, leaving him on the canvas.

It was the last professional fight of Fury’s career.

Steve’s son, Dan Garber, hopes to continue this legacy against Hughie Fury, and raise the score to 2-0 over the Fury name.

Dan Garber fought Moses Itauma on two day’s notice

Garber’s record is 9-4, losing to the likes of Moses Itauma, Viddal Riley, Thomas Carty, and Lamah Griggs.

Speaking to Boxing Now, Garber said he boxed Riley on a day’s notice and Itauma, who wants to fight Filip Hrgovic, on two day’s notice. He said: “The only time I’ve ever been given notice was when I boxed Tom Carty when I went eight rounds with Tom. […] I’ve never really been offered a fair shake of things, really.”

Garber maintained he would not underestimate his opponent, but that having six weeks’ notice may play a crucial difference to his performance and his ability to do the double in the Fury vs Garber rivalry, which will take place on GBM’s show on the 4th of April.
