Turki Alalshikh has said the two British rivals will finally come together in a highly anticipated bout.
Eubank Jr. and Benn were originally meant to face off in October 2022 before a failed drug test would interrupt the bout. Benn, who failed the tests, was cleared to fight in the UK again in November of 2024.
Eubank Jr. is the current IBO World Middleweight champion, with a professional record of 34-3. In his last bout, Eubank Jr. would stop Kamil Szeremeta in round seven to claim the title.
Meanwhile, 23-0 Benn will compete in his first world title opportunity. ‘The Destroyer’ last faced Peter Dobson in early 2024, defeating the fighter via unanimous decision.
Chris Eubank Jr. to face Conor Benn in April
Alalshikh has posted on social media to inform fans of the bout between Eubank Jr. and Benn.
The Saudia Arabian advisor said “Eubank Jr. vs Benn [is done] in April, London.”
He added that he would announce finer details such as the exact date and venue “soon.”
The bout will also be a pay-per-view event for British boxing fans. Although the price is seemingly unconfirmed, Alalshikh said “I will push to make [the] PPV price £19.99,” implying the cost of the event is still unconfirmed.
Alalshikh finishes his tweet by saying “Let’s get boxing great again and wait for a huge announcement soon.” It is unclear as to whether the announcement is concerning the previously mentioned bout, or if he is alluding to another fight.
Eubank Jr. vs Benn was one of Alalshikh’s five desired fights on his wish list, indicating that he is making moves to get these bouts done.
Chris Eubank Jr. and Conor Benn’s rivalry has historical significance
Eubank Jr. and Benn have been rivals for quite some time now. However, their rivalry stems from something before both of their fighting careers.
Benn will be looking to avenge a loss that his father suffered in 1990 to Chris Eubank senior. The fathers of the current rivals met two times in their careers, in 1990 and 1993.
Eubank would get the better of Nigel Benn in their first meeting, winning via ninth-round TKO. However, neither fighter emerged victorious in their 1993 fight, as the bout ended in a split draw.
The meeting between their fathers is the foundation of what has become an intense rivalry between the two fighters. Described by Eddie Hearn as the biggest fight in British boxing, there will likely be fireworks when Eubank Jr. meets Benn in April.
The two had an intense faceoff in October, where Neymar played an unlikely moderator between Eubank Jr. and Benn.
