Edgar Berlanga suffered his first stoppage defeat last night as he was dropped and stopped by Hamzah Sheeraz in the Brit’s super-middleweight debut.
Edgar Berlanga suffered his second-ever defeat, and most devastating one to date, as he was dropped multiple times and finished off in the fifth round of his fight with Hamzah Sheeraz.
Berlanga had declared himself ‘The King of New York’ ahead of the fight, and suggested he would put a beating on Sheeraz.
He’s been forced to eat his words, though for one boxing legend a loss is not enough.

Oscar De La Hoya rubs KO loss in Edgar Berlanga’s face
In the press conference ahead of the fight, Berlanga launched into a tirade against Oscar De La Hoya, William Zepeda‘s promoter, and brought some women’s underwear and a wig to mock an infamous image of De La Hoya wearing women’s clothes.
After the loss, De La Hoya took to social media, wearing the wig Berlanga had taken to the press conference, and addressed the Puerto Rican directly,
“Berlanga, oh my god, you got knocked out! Something Canelo Alvaroids couldn’t do.”
De La Hoya also targeted Canelo, who he used to promote.
With the win over Berlanga, Sheeraz has secured his spot as Canelo’s future opponent in 2026.
