Eddie Hearn teases the possibility of signing former undisputed champion Josh Taylor

Eddie Hearn has revealed that he’s in the market to bolster his stable with the addition of Josh Taylor, who’s recently become a free agent.

Following his unanimous decision defeat to domestic rival Jack Catterall, Taylor has decided to keep his options open by parting ways with long-term promoters Top Rank.

The Scot was comprehensively outpointed by a methodical and more assertive Catterall after suffering his first professional loss against Teofimo Lopez last year.

But now, the 33-year-old looks to prolong the twilight years of his illustrious career, and could potentially ink a deal with leading promoter Eddie Hearn.

Will Eddie Hearn bring Josh Taylor to Matchroom Boxing?

Taylor’s eagerly-awaited rematch with Catterall arrived more than two years on from their first encounter, which ended in a highly-controversial split decision.

While it was the former undisputed super lightweight champion who emerged victorious, many felt that his southpaw opponent had done more than enough to cause the upset.

Nevertheless, Catterall was eventually given his opportunity to exact revenge, leaving Taylor in need of a new promoter to reignite his career.

“We’ve spoken to him,” Hearn told IFLTV. “I like Josh a lot, actually. I liked working with him on the last fight [against Catterall] – he was brilliant in the build-up.

“It’s got to work for everybody, and that’s us included. Obviously he’s used to earning a lot of money and there is a little bit of a rebuild job to do, in my opinion, just because I think we want to build some momentum.

“It’s got to work for everybody on the numbers but, if it did, I’d love to bring Josh to Matchroom. I still think he’s got a lot to give.”

Could Josh Taylor secure a trilogy with Jack Catterall?

Most would argue that Catterall’s performance back in May was enough to put a definitive line in the sand of his bitter rivalry with Taylor.

However, Hearn has hinted at a potential trilogy between the pair, as Taylor now begins to take the necessary steps towards reaching the upper echelons of his division once again.

Another potential option in the Matchroom stable is Liam Paro, who claimed the IBF super lightweight title following his upset victory over Subriel Matias.

But, then again, it is no secret that Taylor has struggled to make the 140 lb limit in recent years, and so he may look to become a two-weight world champion up at welterweight instead.
