Eddie Hearn hits back at ‘unacceptable’ comments from Jake Paul amid defamation lawsuit

Eddie Hearn and Jake Paul have been at loggerheads since the Matchroom Boxing boss filed a defamation lawsuit against the social media star.

Hearn took legal action in September 2022 shortly after Paul had accused him of bribing seasoned boxing judge Glenn Feldman in an interview earlier that month.

The accusation was made in relation to two fights, with the first one being Katie Taylor vs Amanda Serrano, which headlined a co-promoted show involving Matchroom Boxing and Jake Paul’s Most Valuable Promotions.

Feldman had scored the bout 97-93 for Taylor, before giving Anthony Joshua the edge against Oleksandr Usyk in their heavyweight clash, submitting what was, once again, a rather questionable score of 115-113.

New York judge refuses to dismiss Eddie Hearn’s lawsuit against Jake Paul

Despite Paul’s attempts to get the case dismissed on Monday, a U.S. District Court judge in New York has ensured that proceedings will now go ahead, according to a report by ESPN.

A hearing has also been set for October 16, with Eddie Hearn firmly sticking by his decision to seek damages against the 27-year-old.

“It’s something that we took very seriously and is something that a lot of work has gone into,” Hearn told The Stomping Ground.

“Obviously, it hasn’t been resolved, and was attempted to be struck out by Jake Paul and the New York court said, ‘absolutely not.’

“Now we move forward on October 16, and now the real proceedings begin regarding that defamation case.

“It’s unfortunate that we’re here but what was said was unacceptable, and we have to protect our reputation, our integrity and our position.”

Will Jake Paul vs Mike Tyson still go ahead?

While Paul prepares for a courtroom brawl with Hearn, it seems as though his controversial showdown with Mike Tyson will, nonetheless, still go ahead on November 15.

The Youtube sensation’s clash with heavyweight legend ‘Iron Mike’ is still in doubt, though, with Tyson’s medical issue representing a major concern regarding his safety.

But still, at 58 years of age, it appears that the youngest heavyweight world champion in history remains desperate to get his hands on Paul, a relative boxing novice.

And, moreover, with the event being Netflix’s first ever live boxing show, fans can expect fireworks from what will also be a stacked card, featuring the eagerly-anticipated rematch between Taylor and Serrano.
