Eddie Hearn drops huge Anthony Joshua retirement hint as his rematch against Daniel Dubois hits another delay

Anthony Joshua’s promoter, Eddie Hearn, has dropped a huge hint that the British heavyweight will retire following his next fight.

This past September, Anthony Joshua suffered yet another devastating career loss when he was KO’d by Daniel Dubois in the fifth round of their IBF heavyweight title fight.

The two British heavyweights were set to rematch in February, however, the bout has suffered a setback that Eddie Hearn has hinted could result in Joshua retiring from the sport.

Eddie Hearn hints Anthony Joshua may retire ‘within the next year’

Following the worst KO loss of his career, fans and former professionals advised that the 35-year-old retire from the sport, however, he remained adamant that he wouldn’t retire just yet.

Despite the desired date for the rematch being February, the bout has been pushed back after AJ has been advised against returning to the ring too soon.

The Matchroom Boxing promoter has admitted that Joshua could well be in his final year as a professional.

“This could be (Joshua’s) last year in the sport,” Hearn told The Times.

Hearn also said in an interview with DAZN: “It could be the Dubois rematch but it won’t be on February 22nd. I think we have to see how the December 21st unfolds (Usyk-Fury II) and then make a decision after that.

“Expect to see AJ in the ring next May or June.”

UK boxing fans are still hopeful of eventually seeing Joshua vs Tyson Fury despite Joshua’s recent demise. Fury is set to rematch Oleksandr Usyk on December 21st after their first historic clash.

Daniel Dubios surprisingly calls for a fight against Jake Paul

Although Dubios’ next fight is supposed to take place against Joshua, following Jake Paul‘s recent mammoth fight against Mike Tyson, Dubios has surprisingly offered ‘The Problem Child’ a shot at the belt.

“Hi Jake, good business on the weekend but how would you feel fighting for the legitimate heavyweight championship of the world?” Dubios said in a message to the 28-year-old on Instagram.

A fight between the internet sensation turned boxer and the heavyweight champion is unlikely to actually happen, but Paul has been called out by several champions, making his next move extremely intriguing.
