‘Easy work’… George Kambosos Jr. offered $50,000 bet from opponent ahead of world title fight

George Kambosos Jr. will look to become a two-time world champion when he takes on Richardson Hitchins on June 14th.

The fight will take place in New York, where Kambosos Jr. shocked the world against Teofimo Lopez. However, should the Australian have another successful night, he will have to get past the IBF World Super Lightweight champion.

Hitchins will aim to make the first defense of the title, as well as improve his 19-0 record.

There is seemingly some heat between the two fighters amidst fight week, as the pair had a fiery face off days out from their bout.

Richardson Hitchins offers George Kambosos Jr. personal bet during face off

Hitchins and Kambosos Jr. have engaged in some verbal sparring ahead of their headline meeting in New York on Saturday night.

In a face-to-face for DAZN, Hitchins proposed a bet of $50,000 to the former world champion. “Can we get this on camera now? Can we make this bet for June 14th?”

Seemingly unbothered by the proposal, Kambosos Jr. said, “I’m sitting on millions, I don’t give a —- about the bet. Let’s do the bet. Done.”

The pair then shook hands in agreement during the face-off.

Hitchins then turned to someone off-screen and said, “Can y’all put this on the contract? [For the] Loser, $50,000 is deducted, please? Can we make this official?”

Despite the pair shaking on the bet in the face off, it appears as if Kambosos Jr. has since changed his mind.

In a later face-off, with footage captured by Fight Hub TV, Hitchins said to Kambosos, “You shook on it [the bet] and took it back.”

Kambosos Jr. responded by saying, “I spoke to my financial advisor, why the —- would I bet one-on-one with you when I took my 50 grand and sent it on the odds?”

Hitchins answered by saying, “But you shook on it, though.”

George Kambosos Jr. goes into title fight off hometown win

Despite a loss to now-retired Vasiliy Lomachenko in 2024, Kambosos Jr. earned his world title shot thanks to a win over Jake Wyllie.

Winning in his hometown of Sydney, Kambosos Jr. defeated his fellow countryman via unanimous decision.

The win improved Kambosos Jr.’s record to 22-3, with his only losses coming from Devin Haney and Lomachenko.

As for Hitchins, he claimed the IBF World Super Lightweight title against Liam Paro (25-0) in December 2024.
