‘Easy money’… 48-1 cruiserweight world champion welcomes fight with Jake Paul

Jake Paul continues to stir the boxing world as opinions on ‘The Problem Child’ among fans are split.

Although some may feel the Internet star has a positive influence on boxing due to the attention he is garnering, others don’t look at Paul in such a flattering light.

Regardless, the 12-1 fighter has been involved in major headliners over recent years. Now that Paul is ranked by the WBA as a cruiserweight, more big names may be in the pipeline.

Despite backlash from fans regarding Paul’s ranking, one of the world champions of the cruiserweight division is open to the possibility of fighting the 28-year-old.

Gilberto Ramirez says he is open to a fight with Jake Paul, but does not feel it would be a fair matchup

Paul’s most recent win would see him overcome the challenge of Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. in California in June. Winning the bout via unanimous decision, it was a one-sided showing from ‘The Problem Child’.

In the co-main event of the card, WBA and WBO World Cruiserweight champion Gilberto Ramirez also earned a unanimous decision victory.

The pair faced off with one another as Paul is calling for an opportunity to fight for a world title. Although many feel the American is not ready, ‘Zurdo’ has now had his say.

In an interview with TMZ Sports, Ramirez was asked if he was open to a potential fight with Paul. His response was, “If the money is right, why not? Easy fight for me, easy money.”

When asked how the fight would play out, the Mexican said, “I don’t think it would be a fair fight, because I am a champion, world-class champion, number one ranked.”

Speaking on Paul, Ramirez added, “He’s slow, he throws punches so wild. I don’t know why he’s talking —- about me.”

Cruiserweight unification remains the main goal for Gilberto Ramirez

Despite being open to a fight with Paul, Ramirez seemingly has his eyes fixated on cruiserweight unification.

Ramirez was recently called out by Jai Opetaia, another title holder in the division, for a unification bout as he aims to spoil Paul’s plans. When speaking to TMZ Sports about Paul, Ramirez said, “At the end of the day, I want to unify and be the undisputed world champion. That’s my goal, my main goal.”

Badou Jack is the other title holder of the cruiserweight division that ‘Zurdo’ can look towards. However, if neither champion is available for the Mexican, he is open to the fight with Paul.

The interviewer said, “If Jake Paul was the name it seems like you wouldn’t say no,” to which Ramirez responded, “Yeah, of course. I will take that fight.”
