Dillian Whyte explains why Tyson Fury ‘needs to be very careful’ in Oleksandr Uysk rematch

Tyson Fury will look to exact revenge on Oleksandr Usyk in their eagerly anticipated rematch on December 21.

The pair collided for the undisputed heavyweight crown back in May, with Oleksandr Usyk emerging victorious following a compelling 12-round spectacle.

Not only that, but the Ukrainian came exceptionally close to stopping Tyson Fury in the ninth round, scoring a standing count after landing a barrage of attacks.

And yet, shortly after the final bell, the 37-year-old was ultimately awarded a split decision for his monumental effort, becoming the first undisputed heavyweight king since Lennox Lewis.

Dillian Whyte believes that Oleksandr Usyk can stop Tyson Fury

Ahead of their second encounter in just over a month’s time, Fury has claimed that his preparation will be significantly elevated.

The main difference being that, in contrast to his last training camp, the Brit’s sparring should not be hampered by an injury.

Their first clash, after all, was set to take place back in February before Fury sustained a cut above his right eye, limiting any sparring during his preparation for Usyk.

But now, both fighters appear to be firing on all cylinders, with the current heavyweight champion even taunting his rival on social media.

Another fighter who knows a thing or two about stepping into the ring with Fury is Dillian Whyte, who suffered a devastating sixth-round stoppage defeat to ‘The Gypsy King’ back in 2022.

But even after feeling the full wrath of the 36-year-old, Whyte remains convinced that Usyk is capable of producing a stoppage in their rematch.

“[In] heavyweight boxing, [a fighter’s] always just one punch away [from a stoppage],” Whyte told Sky Sports.

“[Usyk] tagged him pretty good [in the ninth round]. In some places in the world, they would’ve stopped this fight.

“But obviously, because of Fury’s nature, and the fact that he gets up and keep going – that’s why they didn’t stop it.

“But I think Usyk can stop him. Usyk is growing into that heavyweight physique and is a lot stronger. Fury needs to be very careful in the rematch.”

Dillian Whyte will return to the ring against former Daniel Dubois opponent

Since his defeat to Fury, Whyte has suffered from a lengthy spell of inactivity, amassing just two wins against Jermaine Franklin Jr and Christian Hammer.

But now, the 36-year-old is gearing up for his comeback fight against Ebenezer Tetteh, who was pulverized by IBF heavyweight champion Daniel Dubois back in 2019.

Nevertheless, the pair will collide on December 15 in Gibraltar, where Whyte once secured a fourth-round stoppage in his rematch against Alexander Povetkin.

And so, ‘The Body Snatcher’ will undoubtedly be looking to region the flourishing heavyweight scene next year, with several intriguing matchups waiting to be made.
