Devin Haney sends out cold warning to bitter rival Ryan Garcia – he ‘wants to make him pay’

Devin Haney has sent out a cold warning to Ryan Garcia after he was banned for testing positive for a banned substance.

Ryan Garcia put in one of the upsets of the year when he defeated Devin Haney against the odds in April. Garcia dropped Haney three times before being handed a majority points victory over his fierce rival.

The American then shocked the world for a second time by testing positive for the performance-enhancing drug known as Enobosarm after the fight.

Garcia’s win was already under scrutiny after he weighed in three pounds over the agreed 140-pound weight limit.

The failed tests earned the American a one-year ban and his win has been declared a no-contest. Now, amid all the controversy, Haney has sent a warning to his rival.

Devin Haney sends out warning to Ryan Garcia about potential rematch

Haney has been angry with Garcia ever since the results of the failed drug tests were released, demanding he be banned and the result be changed.

Now the fighter has got what he wants, he has sent out a chilling warning to his fierce rival – but insists the punishment is not enough.

Haney told MMA Fighting: “I want to make him pay for the s*** that he did. In the ring, out the ring, however. I would love for my next fight to be Ryan Garcia. That’s the fight I want to get back in blood.”

He continued: “I don’t think cheaters should be in boxing. I think he should have been banned for life. I want to get it back, I’m just that type of fighter.”

Ryan Garcia should have been banned for longer

The one-year ban given to Garcia doesn’t send out a good message to other fighters who plan to use performance-enhancing drugs.

A one-year ban to top-level boxers is nothing as they only regularly fight twice a year and Garcia has been inactive recently.

UKAD gave out a four-year ban to a fighter who recently tested positive for cocaine, a drug that is not seen as performance-enhancing.

So how did Garcia get away with a one-year ban? The punishment should have been more.
