Deontay Wilder’s next rival revealed advice from fighter who scored boxing’s biggest upset against a legend

Deontay Wilder will face Tyrrell Herndon in a make-or-break fight for his career at the end of the month.

Deontay Wilder is now 43-4-1 after accruing four losses in his last five fights. ‘The Bronze Bomber’ is preparing for a return later this month in what is truly a sink-or-swim fight that could end in the retirement of boxing’s once-most dangerous fighter, or a resurgence of the power punching American.

Despite Wilder’s losses and questionable performances against Joseph Parker and Zhilei Zhang, Herndon is still a clear underdog.

The 37-year-old has never been close to world level, with Herndon having lost to Efe Ajagba and Richard Torrez Jr. inside two rounds. His best win was a 7-0 opponent, and five of his opponents in the last four years have 10 or more losses.

Despite all of that, Herndon has faith, as does a man who caused the biggest upset boxing has ever seen.

Tyrrell Herndon received advice from Mike Tyson’s underdog opponent, Buster Douglas

In an interview with Da Hangout Spot, Herndon spoke on his conversation with Buster Douglas, who handed Mike Tyson his first loss by way of a monumental upset stoppage win.

“I got the ultimate advice from the ultimate upset guy, Buster Douglas.”

Douglas beat Tyson after promising his mother he would, though she passed away around a month before the biggest fight and win of his career.

Herndon spoke on the advice Douglas shared: “The first thing he told me is ‘Man, forget that dude. […] He ain’t no different than the past two people you beat, except he got a bigger name.'”

Douglas was a 42-1 underdog for his fight with Tyson, and Herndon will be looking to defy the odds in his own fight later this month.

Tyrrell Herndon on what fans can expect in his fight with Wilder

Herndon summarized what fans can expect from his fight with Wilder, stating:

“June 27th. Lock in. Tune in, man. […] Just look forward to a night of the unknown, from the unknown, and watch me create, uh, make a name out of myself. Watch me put my name on the world schedule, on the world stage, and show you guys what this ‘little guy’ can do.”

“Watch me pull one of the, what I feel, biggest upsets.”

Wilder has every advantage in terms of reach, height, weight, and experience, though Herndon, who appointed a mental coach, seems confident he can shock the world.
