Deontay Wilder’s next opponent manifested the fight six years ago

Deontay Wilder’s next fight has been announced for June 27th in Kansas.

Deontay Wilder has had an unfortunate run lately, as his incredible draw with Tyson Fury, a fight in which he sent Fury to the canvas in a moment that won’t likely be soon forgotten, was followed up with just one win in five fights.

Wilder lost to Fury twice more before beating Robert Helenius in one round, and then losing to Joseph Parker and Zhilei Zhang.

His return opponent has now been announced as 24-5 former Efe Ajagba foe, Tyrrell Herndon.

Tyrrell Herndon manifested Deontay Wilder fight in 2019

Back in 2019, when Wilder, who left an opponent twitching, was still undefeated, ahead of his fight with Dominic Brezeale, Tyrrell Herndon took to Instagram with a photo of him with ‘The Bronze Bomber’.

In the caption, Herndon wrote: “Manifesting idols become rivals eventually…”

Six years later that’s exactly what’s happened, as Wilder, who chased Billy Joe Saunders out of a restaurant, makes what may be the final bid to save his career, and Herndon hopes to prove himself on the big stage.

Herndon has lost to a few notable names, including Chris Billam-Smith‘s next opponent Brandon Glanton, who he lost to by disqualification, rising prospect Richard Torrez Jr., and Efe Ajagaba in Ajagba’s first-ever pro fight.

“He’ll probably stop Wilder”… Fans react to Deontay Wilder’s next opponent

Despite losing five of his fights, Herndon has only lost one in the last six years to Torrez Jr. Though his quality of opposition has not been world level, many fans seem to believe he has what it takes to defeat Wilder, who is undoubtedly in the closing chapter of his career.

One fan commented on The Ring’s post: “He’ll most likely beat [Wilder] as well”

Another said: “Wilder should just retire. He’s done.”

But some still back the Tuscaloosa man, stating: “Wilder gonna knock him out now”

It remains to be seen how much Wilder, who began boxing to care for his daughter, has left to give the sport.
