‘Dead sport’… Boxing fans react to Canelo Alvarez vs Terence Crawford reportedly being called off

Boxing has seemingly just lost what surely would’ve been the biggest fight of the year.

Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez and Terence Crawford were supposed to fight each other in September.

It was reported that the super middleweight and super welterweight champions would clash at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, which hosted Super Bowl LVIII in 2024 and could accommodate a crowd just shy of 72,000 people.

Canelo has also been linked to a fight with Jake Paul. Now a new update has suggested that his meeting with ‘Bud’ is off and fans have taken to social media to express their frustration about the super fight falling apart.

Boxing fans react to Canelo vs Crawford being called off

On Thursday, Ring Magazine claimed that Canelo’s fight with Crawford had been scrapped.

“As source has advised The Ring that the anticipated super middleweight showdown between Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez and Terence Crawford is now canceled,” the publication owned by boxing’s most powerful man reported.

As the disappointing news spread like wildfire, fans took to social media to vent their frustrations.

“Dead sport,” one fan tweeted. While another said: “That sucks.”

“If it’s because Jake Paul is fighting Canelo we riot!!” someone else fumed.

“They got us all hyped up to break our hearts in pieces,” one shattered fan wrote.

“WTH happened??” this confused X user asked.

“It was way too good to be true man. I actually believe it for a second,” a sixth fan said.

Mike Tyson didn’t like Canelo vs Crawford matchup

Boxing legend Mike Tyson made his thoughts on Canelo potentially fighting Crawford very clear.

“I don’t like that fight,” the former undisputed heavyweight champion said.

When explaining why he didn’t like the fight, Tyson spoke of ‘too much weight’ in favor of Canelo.

Tyson’s reasoning comes from Crawford’s last outing, where he faced Israil Madrimov at super welterweight, after ‘Bud’ moved up divisions.

Iron Mike added: “He had a close fight with the last guy he fought because he was really big and awkward…He shouldn’t have even fought that guy.”
