David Benavidez’s toughest foe will return to the ring against undefeated Russian powerhouse

David Benavidez has been dropped by just two men, one of whom will return next month against a fierce opponent.

‘The Mexican Monster’ David Benavidez is now 30-0, and is awaiting his next big fight.

His latest opponent was Cuban light-heavyweight David Morrell, who put up a resilient effort against the Mexican, with Morrell even dropping Benavidez in the 11th round, but ultimately lost a unanimous decision.

Morrell is set to return this month in a risky fight against a fierce opponent.

David Morrell to face Imam Khataev on Sheeraz vs Berlanga undercard

July 12th will see the Louis Armstrong Stadium play host to a huge Ring card featuring Shakur Stevenson vs William Zepeda and Hamzah Sheeraz vs Edgar Berlanga.

The stakes are high, with Turki Alalshikh expressing his desire to see boxing rather than running, something Stevenson has been criticized for.

The stakes are high, too, for Sheeraz, who may fight Canelo if he beats Berlanga.

On the undercard, Morrell will come face to face with 10-0 Imam Khataev, who has nine knockout victories to his name and went the distance for the first time on the George Kambosos Jr. vs Jake Wyllie undercard.

The fight has gone under the radar of many, but may prove to be a light-heavyweight classic.

Only one other man has dropped David Benavidez

Morrell did what many others couldn’t when he dropped Benavidez, who may face Callum Smith next, but there is one man who did it years before.

In 2017, Benavidez challenged for the super-middleweight world title against Ronald Gavril.

Gavril dropped him in the 12th, but Benavidez recovered and won a split decision. The pair rematched, but Benavidez still could not get a KO, and won on points.
