Canelo vs David Benavidez has long been a match-up fans want to see, and whilst that fight may not happen anytime soon, there is another that could give us a hint as to how it would go.
David Benavidez defeated David Morrell in his latest outing, and has been on a dominant run of form with wins over Demetrius Andrade, Oleksandr Gvozdyk, and Caleb Plant.
Eddie Hearn has given insight recently into a fight that’s currently in the works between Benavidez and one of his fighters, a former world champion and Canelo opponent coming off one of his best wins to date.

David Benavidez vs Callum Smith could be next, says Eddie Hearn
Eddie Hearn spoke in a recent interview FightHype.com on a potential fight between Benavidez and Callum Smith.
He said: “We’ve had an offer from PBC for Callum Smith to fight David Benavidez. […] It’s a great fight, and we all know that Benavidez is a great fighter. You know it’s not an easy fight at all.”
Smith, who beat George Groves, fought Canelo back in 2020, becoming another scalp on Canelo’s resume. Smith, however, never succumbed to the power of the Mexican, and was not dropped or stopped.
A fight between Smith and Benavidez could allow fans more of an insight into Benavidez’s power compared to Canelo’s.
The Liverpudlian has since moved to light-heavyweight and was stopped for the first time by Artur Beterbiev, before rebounding with a win over Joshua Buatsi last time out, with one Buatsi vs Smith scorecard inciting controversy due to it being too wide.
David Benavidez believes the best fight of all time is still fighting today
In an interview with FightHype.com, Benavidez spoke on Oleksandr Usyk, who he believes is the best fighter of all time.

“Usyk? I don’t think I have enough experience to go up against Usyk. I’m just being 100% honest. Like you say never say never, maybe in the future, maybe in 5 or 6 years but by then Usyk will be 40 something or even older. I have tremendous respect for Usyk and he’s the greatest of all time.”
Usyk is set to rematch Daniel Dubois next month.
