Benavidez and Morrell’s bad blood boiled over during a recent press event ahead of the Las Vegas card. During a routine face-to-face, Benavidez shoved Morrell for refusing to shake his hand, leading to Morrell throwing a belt at Benavidez in retaliation.

It was a wild scene for all involved and added another element to the pre-fight buildup for Benavidez vs. Morrell.

After the viral incident, Benavidez opened up on what happened and how he sees the fight playing out following the altercation.

David Benavidez calls David Morrell ‘the biggest fight of my life’ after scuffle

During a recent interview with Fight Hub TV, Benavidez reacted to the press conference brawl with Morrell.

“That’s exactly what I wanted and that’s exactly what I needed,” Benavidez said. “This fight, this is the type of energy that this fight is going to bring. So imagine we already want to get in there and throw punches without the gloves, so imagine when we get in there with gloves after three months of training. It’s going to be the best of all of next year. But I’m 100% ready.

“It’s funny that they say I’m RoboCop, that I don’t have any defense, I don’t have this and that — literally everybody I fought has said that but once they get in the ring with David Benavidez they know it’s a whole different story,” Benavidez continued. “So I’m very excited, this is the biggest fight of my life and I’m at the best moment of my life mentally, physically, emotionally. Everything is at 100% so I’m going to go in here and I’m going to get the knockout victory.” (h/t Bad Left Hook)

David Benavidez faces potential Canelo Alvarez clash with win vs. David Morrell

Benavidez could potentially make another weight-class jump with a victory over Morrell. Superfights with the likes of Canelo Alvarez and unified cruiserweight champion Gilberto ‘Zurdo’ Ramirez are on the table if he can get past his upcoming opponent.

Entering the Morrell clash, Benavidez has earned recent wins over the likes of Caleb Plant and Demetrius Andrade. A win over Morrell would not only unify the titles but also open a world of opportunities for his next fights.

First thing’s first for Benavidez as he prepares to face arguably the toughest test of his young boxing career. If he can get past Morrell, he can put their beef to bed and focus on additional high-profile clashes in 2025.
