David Benavidez can look towards a big fight in his next outing following his impressive win over David Morrell.
Benavidez’s win over Morrell would see him defend his interim WBC World Light Heavyweight title before getting promoted to full champion.
Benavidez became a potential opponent for Dmitry Bivol following the Russian’s win over Artur Beterbiev. However, it appears Bivol is eyeing a trilogy match with his rival, Beterbiev.
There is currently no official next opponent for Benavidez. However, one surprise fighter has called out the champion following a huge win.

David Benavidez called out by Rolando Romero following Ryan Garcia win
Following his win over Ryan Garcia in Times Square on May 5th, Rolando Romero has called out David Benavidez.
In an interview with Fight Hub TV, Romero made the bizarre callout after being asked about his future. When the interviewer inquired as to whether Romero wanted more headline bouts, the fighter responded, “I want to fight David Benavidez.”
The interviewer asked Romero if he would fight Benavidez in September, before saying, “It can’t be September, that’s [when] Canelo vs Crawford [is].”
‘Rolly’ responded by saying, “I think me and Benavidez sell more than Canelo-Crawford… Me and Benavidez, that’s the fight.”
When questioned as to the legitimacy of his call-out, Romero responded by saying, “I’m being serious… You think he [Benavidez] can still make 168 [lbs]?”
“I’ll fight him at 168. I want to fight the Mexican Monster.”

Rolly Romero weighed in at a career-heaviest 146 lbs vs Ryan Garcia
Despite seemingly being legitimate in his callout, a fight between Romero and Benavidez is unlikely.
In his last outing versus Garcia, Romero’s official weight was 146.5 lbs. This was the heaviest the fighter has ever weighed in his professional career.
As for Benavidez, the fighter has never officially weighed in less than 163 lbs for a professional bout. The last time that ‘The Monster’ competed at super middleweight was November 2023.
Now competing at light heavyweight, Benavidez’s last official weight of 174.5 lbs is almost 30 lbs heavier than Romero’s last weigh in.
