Daniel Dubois’ former trainer reveals one weakness in Anthony Joshua’s game he can exploit

Daniel Dubois’ former trainer Shane McGuigan has revealed what he needs to do in order to beat Anthony Joshua.

Dubois faces the biggest test of his career so far when he takes on Joshua at Wembley Stadium, London on Saturday.

The 27-year-old is the current IBF heavyweight title holder after Oleksandr Usyk was forced to vacate the belt just two weeks after becoming the unified champion of the heavyweight division.

If victorious, Dubois will get the chance to fight the winner of the rematch between Usyk and Tyson Fury to become the undisputed champion.

Shane McGuigan reveals Anthony Joshua’s biggest weakness

96,000 fans will be in attendance to see one of the fights of the year this weekend and while previewing the fight on TalkSPORT, Dubois’ former trainer McGuigan explained how he can get the better of Joshua.

In a visual demonstration alongside Adam Smith and Spencer Oliver, the son of legendary fighter Barry McGuigan noted one part of Joshua’s game plan that Dubois can exploit.

“When he’s in the fire, he can be vulnerable,” said Smith.

McGuigan replied: “Absolutely, because he drops his right hand when he throws a jab.

“So when he throws a jab he separates it [from the right hand] to get it to really travel.

“And when he gets brave, he drops his right hand.”

He then added: “The most important thing for Daniel is for him to double that jab up.

“Then the right-hand pull isn’t there and he can land afterwards.”

While Dubois can cause plenty of damage to Joshua, he will still need to be at his best to deny the 34-year-old the chance to become a three-time world champion.

“Whoever establishes their jab first and gets into a rhythm will take control of the fight early,” Oliver initially said before McGuigan continued: “But he is way more accurate and it’s also his confidence with punching through the target.

“He doesn’t punch through the target with his jab but he really lets the right hand go and that is such a devastating shot, Daniel can’t get hit with it.”
