Chris Eubank Jr. vs Conor Benn 2 collapsed over one key issue, says furious promoter

After a blockbuster event that is sure to go down in British history, it seems that Chris Eubank Jr and Conor Benn will not be rematching as originally planned.

Chris Eubank Jr settled the family feud with the Benns once and for all as he repeated history, defeating Conor Benn in a packed Tottenham Hotspur Stadium with his previously estranged father beside him.

The night was a brilliant one for British boxing, and was set to happen all over again, with both parties agreeing in their contracts to a rematch.

Now, Turki Alalshikh has stated he is no longer interested in the rematch after some difficulty from Eubank Jr’s side, and Eddie Hearn had some strong words for the British fighter.

‘He was never ready’… Eddie Hearn blasts Chris Eubank Jr for wasting time and ruining planned rematch

In an interview with The Stomping Ground, Eddie Hearn, Benn’s promoter, spoke on how the fight fell apart.

“We’ve spent the last month […] putting together options for the date. The date was always going to be the 20th or the 27th of September. There was correspondence from Boxxer to say those dates should be fine. […] All of a sudden, once Turki Alalshikh announces it, Chris Eubank says ‘Oh I’m not ready for September 20th.'”

Hearn continued, “And now I’m being told by his team that he was never ready for September 20th. You mean to tell me we’ve wasted a month of our time planning venues, meeting with potential venues, when you were never ever ready […] The story doesn’t add up.”

Conor Benn will watch one fight this Saturday very closely

As the Eubank fight faces the chopping block, Benn is on the lookout for his next opponent, someone closer to his natural weight.

On Saturday night, Manny Pacquiao vs Mario Barrios tops the bill of what will be 2025’s biggest night of boxing.

Benn called out Barrios after losing to Eubank, and will keep a close eye on the winner of that fight, in the hopes of securing for himself a world title.

Eubank, meanwhile, may have squandered his promised shot at Canelo by ruining Alalshikh’s plans, meaning another fighter, such as Diego Pacheco, may fight Canelo instead.
