Chris Eubank Jr has candidly revealed the reason for his loss to George Groves via unanimous decision in 2018.
Chris Eubank Jr and George Groves faced off in the semi-final of the World Boxing Super Series tournament in Manchester six years ago.
Despite being the favorite going into the contest, Eubank Jr lost the decision on all three judge’s scorecards which read 117-112, 116-112 and 115-113 in favour of Groves.
This was the second loss of Eubank Jr’s career after producing a phenomenal performance to knock out Avni Yildirim.

Chris Eubank Jr believes George Groves was too big for him
Eubank Jr has claimed that Groves outweighed him which was one of the reasons for his defeat.
Speaking to Mail Sport Boxing, Eubank Jr said: “In that fight I learned that weight is a real issue. I learned that night that I wasn’t supposed to be in the super middleweight division.
“The guy was twenty pounds heavier than me on the night.”
The son of Chris Eubank Sr had moved up to super middleweight in 2017 to take on Renold Quinlan for the IBO Super Middleweight World Title.
He then registered a points victory over former world champion Arthur Abraham before entering the Super Six tournament and beating Yildrim in the first round.
Was Chris Eubank Jr more successful at super middleweight?
Despite stating he wasn’t a real super middleweight when he fought Groves, Eubank’s best wins have arguably all come at 168 lbs.
This includes Eubank Jr’s dominant victory against James DeGale in 2019.
However, Eubank Jr is coming off a career-best performance in his middleweight rematch against Liam Smith, when he avenged his loss with a tenth-round stoppage.
Additionally, before consecutive fights with Smith, Eubank overcame Liam Williams with ease.
Furthermore, the 34-year-old has decided to stay at 160 lbs for his upcoming bout against Kamil Szeremeta on October 12.
