Canelo’s loudmouth foe challenged by Jake Paul’s journeyman sparring partner

Canelo is currently preparing for a legacy-defining fight against Terence Crawford, whilst one of his foes is being called out by a man with 17 losses.

Canelo’s last fight saw him pick up a drab win over William Scull to become a two-time undisputed super-middleweight, after becoming the first and only person to go undisputed in the division in 2021 with his win over Caleb Plant.

In his fight before, Canelo dropped Edgar Berlanga en route to a unanimous decision win. The Puerto Rican self-professed ‘King of New York’ was stopped brutally in his next fight by British star Hamzah Sheeraz.

Now with two losses, Berlanga has been called out by a journeyman with almost 20 defeats, who believes he has what it takes to school the loudmouth fighter.

Gabriel Rosado returns to boxing and wants Edgar Berlanga fight

Gabe Rosado is a 27-17-1 journeyman who has shared the ring with some of the greatest talents in the sport.

He is more talented than his record would indicate, losing to Daniel Jacobs on a split decision in one of his toughest fights, and a majority decision against Shane Mosley Jr.

Of his 17 losses, just four have come by stoppage, with one of those being when Rosado’s corner feared for his life against Gennadiy Golovkin.

Following a long career as a gatekeeper, Rosado stepped back from boxing in April 2023, but has since returned to the ring a few days ago – scoring a first-round knockout victory over a low-level opponent.

Speaking to FightHubTV, Rosado spoke on returning to boxing, and who he wants next.

“I’m back back. It was funny I went to Puerto Rico and I did the last three weeks of camp with Jake [Paul], and just getting in the mix with sparring, I started feeling good, bro.”

On a possible Berlanga fight, “When has there been a time where two Puerto Ricans with a name bang it out. He has that celebrity factor. He’s loud. […] I just think it’s a great fight. I feel like I can school him. I can take him to school.”

Gabe Rosado’s had one eerie similarity to his comeback foe

In Rosado’s comeback, he faced Crispulo Javier Andino in Long Beach.

The fight occurred after Rosado had scored just three wins in his last 12 fights.

In a bizarre bit of matchmaking, both men had the exact same boxing record going into the fight – 26-17-1.

After the victory Rosado elevated to 27-17-1 whilst his foe is now 26-18-1, but for that one round, the pair were equal.
