Few fighters in modern boxing history have faced the caliber of opponents that Canelo Alvarez has.
The Mexcian super middleweight champion has shared the ring with some all-time greats and has only lost to the best the sport has to offer.
With a professional record of 62-2, Alvarez’s losses have been to Floyd Mayweather and Dmitry Bivol via decision.
As well as being a difficult fighter to beat, few fighters have even come close to besting Alvarez.
However, despite dropping losses to Mayweather and Bivol, neither fighter is the hardest fight Alvarez feels he has been in.

Gennadiy Golovkin named as Canelo Alvarez’s hardest opponent
Speaking to ‘Million Dollaz Worth of Game’, Alvarez was asked about how tough some of his former opponents were.
The Mexican mentioned that his “most difficult” fight was Mayweather, who handed Alvarez his first professional loss. The tightly contested bout would see Alvarez lose a majority decision after 12 rounds.
However, it would be a different fighter who Alvarez described as his “hardest” opponent.
The super middleweight champion gave this title to Gennadiy Golovkin, who Alvarez faced three times.
Alvarez would get the better of ‘Triple G’ in the trilogy, winning twice and drawing once. However, Alvarez’s skills were truly tested across the 36 rounds with the former champion.
Known for his incredible durability, Alvarez landed a knockout blow on Golovkin in their second meeting, however, ‘GGG’ stayed standing and unfazed.
As one of the toughest and greatest middleweight fighters of all time, it is no surprise that Golovkin got the nod from his former opponent.
Canelo Alvarez names hardest puncher he has ever faced
As well as naming his hardest and most difficult opponents, Alvarez was asked by ‘Million Dollaz Worth of Game’ who the strongest puncher he had faced was.
Alvarez would say that although many people believe it to be Golovkin, he would not be the Mexican’s choice.
“Everybody can say Golovkin, but I never felt that bad.”
Instead, James Kirkland was named as the hardest puncher Alvarez faced.
“Kirkland, he hit my arms and it felt like rocks.”
Alvarez would defeat Kirkland with a round-three knockout and mentioned that he felt the need to end the fight due to his opponent’s power.
