July 19th will be 2025’s biggest night of boxing, and it seems Canelo will be watching closely.
On July 19th, Manny Pacquiao vs Mario Barrios and Oleksandr Usyk vs Daniel Dubois will headline the biggest night of boxing this year.
Usyk and Dubois are fighting for the undisputed heavyweight championship, with Usyk hoping to become a three-time undisputed champion, and Dubois hoping to secure his spot in the history books.
Ahead of the fight, Canelo has placed an astronomical bet on one of the fighters, and also revealed why.
Canelo reveals why he put 500k bet on Oleksandr Usyk
Canelo recently took to X, seemingly in partnership with 1Win, to disclose that he had placed a $500k bet on Usyk to beat Dubois.
In his post, Canelo stated his reasons for the bet, which were as follows:
“Over the past five years, Usyk has beaten the best. Oleksandr has very strong stamina; he’s very technical and smart. When I see someone with that kind of focus, I back them. That’s why I placed a big bet on his victory.”
He finished his post with words of encouragement for the Ukrainian pound-for-pound elite,
“Oleksandr, you do you!”
Canelo has his own mega-fight looming as he will take on Terence Crawford, who gives himself a 70% chance of victory, in September.
