Canelo Alvarez has been written off by former title holder Demetrius Andrade when it comes to a potential clash against David Benavidez.
After holding multiple titles for several years, Demetrius Andrade’s career came to an end in 2023 when he was handed a loss by David Benavidez.
Following his extremely impressive win over Andrade and subsequent wins following that, there continue to be calls for the 28-year-old to fight Canelo Alvarez who is still wondering who his next opponent may be.
Alvarez’s last fight came this past September when he took down Edgar Berlanga, which frustrated Benavidez.

Canelo Alvarez to lose against David Benavidez according to former champion
Following Jake Paul‘s huge win against Mike Tyson this past November, ‘The Problem Child’ received attention from Canelo who seemingly suggested he will finally fight the YouTuber turned boxer.
Despite that, boxing fans are only interested in seeing the Mexican fight the best of the best and that is why calls continue for him to fight Benavidez.
Historically, Alvarez has claimed he will only fight ‘El Monstro’ if he is paid over $100m which didn’t seem like too much of an issue.
However, rumors have recently surfaced that a fight between Canelo and Terence Crawford is of interest as the Mexican champion looks to book his next fight this month.
“Canelo is not beating (Benavidez). I don’t see how Canelo is beating him,” Andrade said of Alvarez’s chances against Benavidez.
“Canelo is smaller and I was able to push David around for a few rounds, do what I had to do, whatever with that weight and his length. And he knows how to throw punches in bunches. It’s gonna be a hard task for Canelo and then David is not somebody that’s gonna let up on you either,” he continued.
“And because he’s big and long, he can protect himself. How can you score such a guy being a big and powerful puncher to, like, win and tear him down? Canelo is a good fighter. I have nothing against Canelo as far as boxing.”
David Benavidez set to take on David Morrell in main event fight
Constantly frustrated by the fact that Alvarez won’t provide him the opportunity to fight him, Benavidez continues to make a name for himself and continues to score KO after KO.
On February 1, the 28-year-old will main event a card from the T-Mobile Arena when he will take on David Morrell at 175lbs.
With a win over the currently undefeated Cuban, Benavidez will continue to knock on the door of Alvarez and will hope to get the assistance of Turki Alalshikh in the process.
