Canelo Alvarez’s next opponent has been revealed as his bout with Jake Paul has fallen through.
Rumors began to circulate in February 2025 that Alvarez would take on internet star Paul in his next fight in May. However, the bout has since been announced as being off, leading to Paul showing frustration online.
Paul was looking to have another huge headline-generating fight following his meeting with Mike Tyson in November 2024. However, he will now have to look elsewhere for an opponent.
Although Alvarez is understood to be fighting Terence Crawford in September, he will compete before the mega-fight in Las Vegas. Set to return in May, his next opponent has now been announced.

Canelo Alvarez to face fellow super middleweight champion
It has been announced by Turki Alalshikh that Alvarez will face William Scull in a super middleweight title unification bout on the 3rd of May.
Posting the news on his X account, Alalshikh said “If he wins the fight in September will be undisputed again.”
Scull previously said that he was in negotiations with Alvarez, however, the fight has now been confirmed.
Scull is currently the holder of the IBF World Super Middleweight title, while Alvarez is the current WBC and WBO champion.
Cuban fighter Scull currently boasts a record of 23-0, having defeated Vladamir Shishkin in his last outing.
Canelo Alvarez to fight for the first time in Saudi Arabia
Set to fight Scull on May 3rd, the bout will take place in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, meaning Alvarez will fight in the country for the first time.
Saudi Arabia has become a hub for combat sports since Alalshikh has become an influential figure in recent years. However, the Mexican Alvarez has not yet competed there.

The country will play host to one of the biggest boxing cards of all time on February 22nd when Artur Beterbiev and Dmitry Bivol fight for a second time, and Daniel Dubois takes on Joseph Parker.
Alvarez will fight Scull in Saudi Arabia as part of his new four-fight deal with Alalshikh.
