With Canelo Alvarez continuing to dominate over the Super Middleweight division, his next fight has been narrowed down to a select few opponents by the legendary coach, Eddy Reynoso.
Following his impressive title defense over Edgar Berlanga on Mexican Independence Day last year, Canelo Alvarez has been sat on the sidelines waiting for his next contender to show himself.
Despite Canelo sitting out and waiting for the right opportunity, several fellow big name fighters have been linked to a potential fight against the Mexican superstar, with Terence Crawford continuing to talk about a potential match up.
More recently, interim Light Heavyweight champion, David Benavidez called out Canelo for a big money fight, giving the Super Middleweight champ options.

Canelo Alvarez’s next opponent narrowed down to two
With the 34-year-old having not fought since this past September, he is itching to get back inside the ring and his coach and manager, Eddy Reynoso has whittled it down to two potential opponents.
“Well, there are several, there is William Scull,” Reynoso told Box Azteca.
“There is the classified one for this one, there is (Christian) Mbilli, something like that, I think he lives in Canada. They’re the ones more or less. Right now, there is nothing concrete yet, we also hear about Crawford in September but right now we still don’t really have anything certain,” he continued.
Canelo is expected to return to the ring this coming May for Cinco De Mayo weekend and Christian Mbilli and William Scull are the two opponents Reynoso believes will be in line.
William Scull would largely make the most sense as he has possession of the IBF Super Middleweight title, the final piece to Canelo’s Undisputed puzzle.
There is already a slight bit of history between the two as Canelo refused to defend his title against Scull last year, resulting in him giving it up and Scull going on to win it.
Christian Mbilli on the other hand is soaring at 28-0 and the Frenchman is currently ranked number one by Ring Magazine at 168lbs.
What fight is more likely for Canelo Alvarez?
With Reynoso having highlighted these two as the most likely contenders for the Mexican in May, with there already being a history with Scull, that seemingly makes more sense.
Having said that, Mbilli is regarded as quite the devastating prospect and with Canelo having already turned down a fight against Scull in the past, he may one again favor that challenge over an undisputed fight against Scull.
With both Canelo and Crawford still talking up the potential of a fight on Mexican Independence Day in September, it is fair to say whatever challenge Canelo takes on in May will be an aperetif for his clash against ‘Bud’.
