Canelo Alvarez stuns fans with retirement update amid Terence Crawford fight rumors

Canelo Alvarez is widely regarded as one of the pound-for-pound best in the sport of boxing and the Mexican phenom knows exactly when he’s going to put the gloves down.

Canelo Alvarez has had one of the most impressive careers in the sport of boxing, having faced the likes of Floyd Mayweather and ‘Triple G’, Gennady Golovkin, in what was one of the biggest rivalries ever.

Alvarez’s last fight came against Edgar Berlanga this past September in which he retained his WBA, WBC, WBO, and Ring Magazine Super Middleweight titles.

Despite now being 34 years old, Canelo still has many options, however, there is one that is standing out more than most.

Canelo Alvarez reveals exactly when he will retire from boxing

Talks are continuing to heat up regarding a potential fight between Canelo and Terence Crawford with it seemingly all but guaranteed to come next.

The fight is now in advanced talks to take place in Las Vegas this coming September and it would be one of the biggest fights in recent history.

With the Mexican having already reached the pinnacle of the sport, despite there still being a few potential options for him, he knows exactly when he’s going to retire.

“I don’t know, yeah I’m getting closer to (retirement) obviously,” Canelo told Ring Magazine.

“But I’m feeling great, I feel better than ever. But maybe at 38? Yeah, I think 38 would be the perfect time to start thinking about that.

“I have had difficult fights and ones I didn’t need in them moments. I take risks my whole career. I really love the challenges and what I do, and I try to show everybody how good I am.

“I love to go up and down in weight, I never look at my record and say, ‘I did this’,” he continued.

Bob Arum has his say on Canelo Alvarez vs Terence Crawford

Top Rank CEO, Bob Arum has implored the boxing world to not write off Crawford, despite being the smaller fighter.

“I wouldn’t count Crawford out in any fight because Crawford has a unique talent. He’s a great boxer-puncher and totally ambidextrous… I think what Crawford is looking for is Manny Pacquiao vs Oscar De La Hoya,” Arum told Fight Hype.

Terence Crawford’s last fight came against Israil Madrimov back in August when ‘Bud’ scored a unanimous decision victory.

If the huge fight between Canelo and Crawford is booked, it is unclear whether it will be both of their next fights considering the touted date of September.
