Making his first defense of the undisputed super middleweight crown, Canelo Alvarez will welcome the charge of the unbeaten Terence Crawford, who himself has already held undisputed gold twice.

But ahead of the pairing, the Jalisco star has remained candid when it comes to how big the blockbuster pairing is on paper.

Putting his impressive unbeaten run at super middleweight on the line as well as his belts, Canelo has just suffered defeat twice in his career.
Dropping decision losses to both Floyd Mayweather and then Russian star Dmitry Bivol — the latter in a light heavyweight title charge — Canelo believes this fight with Crawford is simply “difficult” due to the stakes up for grabs.
“[The fight with] Terence (Crawford) is different,” Canelo told The Ring. “You can feel it right away.
“And you know how big — how important [the fight is] for my legacy.”
Acutely aware of how a loss to the smaller Crawford — who has competed as low as lightweight in his career — would mean at this stage of his career, Canelo has also been offered some words of warning from the Nebraska native.

Akin to the incumbent super middleweight champion, unbeaten Omaha pugilist Crawford has never been put down in the ring during his time in boxing.
However, stung badly during a tense moment against Jose Cotto — the younger brother of decorated ex-champion Miguel Cotto, Mexican star Canelo was warned that while his chin has held up thus far, anything is possible in the squared circle.
“You know, Canelo (Alvarez) got a granite chin,” Crawford told Fight Hype. “He’s been hurt before. But you know, he has been hit cleanly and took it real well.
