Canelo Alvarez has fired back at David Benavidez’s team for accusing him of ducking their fighter.
On Saturday night, Canelo Alvarez will put the WBO, WBA, WBC Super Middleweight World Titles on the line against Edgar Berlanga in Las Vegas.
Canelo vs Berlanga has sparked interest in the South American boxing community due to being a battle of Mexico vs Puerto Rico.
However, David Benavidez and his team believe he should be the one fighting Canelo after holding the WBC Interim Title for around two years.

Canelo Alvarez claims David Benavidez and his team mention him for attention
Canelo has remained unfazed by ducking accusations and believes Benavidez’s team called him out to stay relevant.
Speaking to iFL TV, Canelo said: “They can say whatever they want, but if they don’t talk with my name nobody’s gonna look at them. I get it, I get it. They need to speak my name to get attention, so I get it.”
After failing to land a bout with Canelo, Benavidez relinquished his interim world title at super middleweight and moved up to light heavyweight where he outpointed Oleksandr Gvozdyk last June.
Benavidez is now hoping to face the winner of Artur Beterbiev vs Dmitry Bivol for the Undisputed Light Heavyweight Title which is scheduled on October 12.
Did Canelo Alvarez duck David Benavidez?
It’s no secret that Canelo vs Benavidez is the most sought-after fight in the super middleweight division.
Yet Canelo has chosen to fight Jaime Munguia, Jermell Charlo, John Ryder and Gennadiy Golovkin in his last four contests.
Additionally, some fans and hall of fame boxers do not think Berlanga deserves a shot against Canelo, like Oscar De La Hoya.
Meanwhile, Benavidez racked up impressive victories against Caleb Plant and Demetrius Andrade in 2023.
The 27-year-old is also renowned for his all-action style which would be a fan-friendly match-up with Canelo.
Unfortunately, Canelo is approaching the latter stages of his career so time is running out for the super fight to happen.
