Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez is used to getting his way in the ring but revealed that only one fighter has truly annoyed him.
As a four-weight world champion, Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez is one of the greatest boxers of all time and has defeated some of the sport’s biggest names on his route to the top.
But even he has had to deal with difficult situations and he’s admitted that one British two-weight champion provided him with plenty of problems.
Back in May 2021, Canelo faced Billy Joe Saunders in a super-middleweight unification fight; however, the Mexican doesn’t look back on him too fondly.

Canelo Alvarez says Billy Joe Saunders ‘got what he deserved’
There was plenty of needle between the two in the run-up to the fight and it appears that even three years on, Canelo hasn’t forgotten Saunders, admitting that nobody has wound him up like that before.
“Billy Joe Saunders,” Canelo told Premier Boxing Champions. “That f****r p****d me off. That’s why he got what he deserved.
“Some fighters… they talk to sell the fight or themselves but I think Saunders is a bad person so I really enjoyed beating that guy.”
What happened between Canelo and Saunders?
The build-up to the fight saw Saunders threaten to pull out before the contest had begun due to a dispute over the size of the ring at Arlington’s AT&T Stadium.
They eventually agreed to fight in a 22-foot ring in Texas as Canelo beat Saunders via stoppage after the Brit didn’t return for the ninth round following an eye injury suffered in the eighth.
It was the frist time Saunders had tasted defeat in his professional career having won all 30 of his fights beforehand.
Saunders is yet to return to the ring since that night whereas Canelo has fought seven times since then.
