Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez has only one name on his mind when it comes to fighting at 175 pounds.
Despite preparing for his upcoming fight with Edgar Berlanga, Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez, the Mexican was recently asked about the upcoming Artur Beterbiev vs Dmitry Bivol fight, which caused him to reminisce on his fight with the latter.
Bivol was responsible for inflicting defeat on Canelo for just the second time in the Mexican’s career back in 2022 and he admitted that he would be interested in running a match-up back.

Canelo Alvarez admits he wasn’t ready to face Dmitry Bivol
During a recent interview with ESPN and the Pound 4 Pound Show podcast, Canelo admitted that he didn’t showcase his full ability when he faced Bivol two years ago and would be open to a rematch to prove he is better than the Russian.
“I missed everything. I fought at 50-50, for things of my own,” he said
“No, I’m not making excuses, far from it, (they are) things that happened, but I would love to do it again.
“The only fight I would take at 175 pounds would be with Bivol again. That’s the only one I’d go to 175 for.”
Canelo has one request to make Bivol rematch happen
Despite registering an interest in one day facing Bivol again, the four-weight champion admits that he wants certain things in place before anything is agreed.
The Mexican stated that Bivol must beat Beterbiev on 12 October in Saudi Arabia.
Alvarez also has the small matter of facing Berlanga on 14 September so any chances of a rematch between the two is a long way off happening.
What happened the last time Canelo and Bivol fought each other?
Bivol shocked the world on 7 May 2022 when he earned a unanimous decision victory at the T-Mobile Arena in Nevada.
The fight was in doubt in the build-up after three of boxing’s world governing bodies (the World Boxing Council, International Boxing Federation, and World Boxing Organization) had blocked all fights including Russian and Belarusian boxers due to the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
Despite this, the World Boxing Association (WBA) authorized the fight and Bivol outclassed Canelo on the night, earning himself a deserved win.
