Canelo Alvarez is a ruthless body puncher in new Undisputed boxing game

The world of combat sports is holding its breath in anticipation for the release of Undisputed, boxing’s newest video game.

Ever since the widely popular Fight Night series – created by EA Sports – reached its natural conclusion in 2011, boxing fans and gamers alike have been yearning for something to fill the void it left behind.

And now, their wishes have finally been granted by Steel City Interactive, a Sheffield-based company that has been developing Undisputed since 2020.

But while its official release isn’t due until October 11, PlayStation, Xbox and Steam users still have plenty of time to pre-order the eagerly awaited game.

Forbes hails cover star Canelo Alverez in Undisputed video game

The Undisputed game promises to provide a plethora of engaging features which, from a boxing fan’s perspective, can only elevate the overall gaming experience on offer.

For instance, all 81 fighters who are already enrolled on the roster will possess certain character traits, largely based on their styles in real life.

A handful of players, who have been lucky enough to gain early access to the game, have highlighted this feature as a particularly captivating aspect of Undisputed, branding cover star Canelo Alvarez, for example, as a prolific body puncher.

“Canelo has the Body Worker trait, which increases the damage of the punches he lands to the body by 25%,” Brian Mazique said in his review on Forbes.

“He also has Liver Destroyer, which enhances his body attack even more as it boosts the damage done by hooks to the body by 50%.

“If you’re an informed boxing fan, you know Canelo has a legendary body attack, and these traits help to show that, but from a gaming standpoint, it helps to craft a fighting style for fans.

“This aspect of the game is probably my favorite of all.”

How will the Undisputed video game evolve over time?

Despite boasting a comprehensive stable of fighters on their roster, Steel City Interactive have equally acknowledged that there is still plenty of scope for the game to grow.

Regarding potential roster additions down the line, then, it is likely that there will be a selection of free and paid updates that players can choose from.

But aside from the likes of Canelo, Tyson Fury, Oleksandr Usyk and Terence Crawford being involved, players will also get the chance to fight with legendary boxers such as Riddick Bowe, Larry Holmes and Muhammad Ali.

And so, while having the freedom to create their own fighter as well, there will no doubt be plenty of options for players to get excited for.
