Canelo Alvarez cautions Terence Crawford one key factor will make him change game plan in title super fight

Just days out from their super fight in ‘Sin City’, Canelo Alvarez has issued his biggest words of caution to incoming challenger Terence Crawford yet.

Putting his undisputed super middleweight championship on the line on September 13, Canelo Alvarez will take on the unbeaten Terence Crawford, who will look to inflict just the third defeat of the Mexican’s gleaming career.

And making the move from welterweight, where he reigned supreme with an undisputed title win at that division, Crawford is making quite the leap in weight.

However, on the back of a recent challenge of activity issued to Canelo, Crawford has now been warned just how lethal that activity could prove to be by the Jalisco sensation.

Canelo Alvarez warns Terence Crawford about a crucial element in title fight

Ramping up his pre-fight assessment of his clash with Crawford, Canelo has himself been warned that he is in for the toughest fight to date during his roughshod run through super middleweight stars.

But as far as the Mexican icon is concerned, the fact that Crawford will taste power at that weight class for the first time in his electric career, will ultimately prove too much for him.

“As soon as he (Terence Crawford) feels the power, he feels everything, he’s going to be the same [as other opponents],” Canelo Alvarez told The Ring.

However, given Crawford’s stunning knockout rate during his welterweight supremacy, Canelo insisted it’s not just as simple as showing off his power in the ring en route to success.

“We need to be very focused and be careful,” Canelo explained. “Anybody can hurt you, right? But if you’re smart and you know how to box, everything is very difficult.”

And having predicted the sort of game plan Nebraska native Crawford is likely to utilize, Canelo claimed he already had an idea of what fight he expects from the challenger.

Himself sparring with Jaron Ennis for his fight with Crawford, Canelo has utilized the unbeaten welterweight star — a distinct rival of his incoming foe — to his benefit during fight camp.

And while Crawford has been encouraged to find success in the ring by bringing in an almost Floyd Mayweather-esque approach to the fight, the Mexican is expecting a toe-to-toe slugfest when they clash.

“To have a good fight, you need both fighters,” Canelo told The Ring. “Boxing is; you throw, you get in there and move — move your ways. Move around a little bit, but throw punches. Getting there, that’s boxing.

“…Like with what we saw with (William) Scull, like running and running, that’s not the kind of fight you want, right?” Canelo explained. “And it’s very difficult to close that [range] and everything.

“I think (Terence) Crawford is not that kind of fighter. He’s different. He boxes.”
