Canelo Alvarez and Terence Crawford’s paths to victory revealed by legendary former world champion ahead of super-fight

Canelo Alvarez and Terence Crawford may give the fans what they want and face off in 2025.

It has been reported that an agreement has been made between Alvarez and Crawford, with the huge fight supposedly taking place in September in Las Vegas.

Turki Alalshikh has been vocal about his desire to get the fight between the pound-for-pound greats done, and it appears as if he has materialized the bout.

Alalshikh has said 2025 will be a “crazy year” for boxing, with the mega-fight in Las Vegas likely being a part of that.

Alvarez (62-2-2) will be welcoming Crawford (41-0) to super middleweight, meaning the American will jump up two weight classes for the bout.

However, one boxing legend does not feel as if the weight difference will be a factor in the fight.

Roy Jones Jr. predicts Canelo Alvarez vs Terence Crawford

Hailed by many as one of the greatest of all time, Roy Jones Jr. was asked about his thoughts on a potential fight between Alvarez and Crawford.

Speaking to Ring Magazine, Jones Jr. does not feel like Crawford will be at a disadvantage due to the size difference. “The weight won’t be a factor.”

The former world champion would then go on to say that Alvarez could be the fighter that dictates the outcome of the match. “The factor will be how Canelo chooses to make the fight. If Canelo comes out there and does what he should do, Canelo wins the fight. If Canelo comes out and does what he shouldn’t do, Crawford wins the fight.”

Jones Jr. was then asked what he thought Crawford should due in terms of a game plan, to which he responded “Control the center of the ring.”

“If Crawford is allowed to control the center, he will win.”

Despite starting his interview with Ring Magazine by saying “There’s weights for a reason in boxing,” Amir Khan would back the smaller fighter when predicting Crawford vs Alvarez.

The former world champion gave credit to Crawford for taking the fight against a bigger opponent. Khan also went on to say there was potential that ‘Bud’ can see something in Canelo’s game that others can’t, leading to a path to victory.

“Maybe he’s [Canelo] gone past his sell-by date and maybe Crawford is the guy to catch him.”

Having faced Crawford in 2019, and losing via sixth-round stoppage, Khan described him as a “good friend” and explained the two have trained and spent time together.

“I wish him all the very best and I think he can do it,” Khan added before stating that Crawford’s fight IQ and punching power were notable elements of his skillset.
