Caleb Plant reveals future plans following shock defeat in headline bout

Caleb Plant was unsuccessful on Saturday night as he suffered a shock defeat to Jose Armando Resendiz.

Unable to build on his knockout win over Trevor McCumby, Plant suffered his third professional loss against his Mexican opponent in Las Vegas.

Winning the bout via split decision, Resendiz improved his professional record to 16-2. As for former Canelo Alvarez opponent Plant, he now has a record of 23-3.

The loss makes ‘Sweethands’ 2-3 in his last five fights, with clear intentions on what he wants his next steps to be.

Caleb Plant reveals rematch clause with Armando Resendiz following defeat

Competing on the same card as Jermall Charlo, it seemed as if Plant was heading towards a match with his rival.

However, due to Plant falling short on Saturday night and Charlo having an incredible performance, a future bout is in doubt.

Speaking at the post-fight press conference, Plant reveals that there is a rematch clause between himself and Resendiz. “We got a rematch clause so I’m more than willing to run it right back.”

‘Sweethands’ also expressed interest in a fight with Charlo, despite the loss. “I’d go right into the Charlo fight.”

When asked if Plant would go directly into the fight with knockout artist Charlo before facing Resendiz again, the 32-year-old said, “Absolutely, no doubt.”

Fans react to Caleb Plant’s shocking loss as significant favorite

Despite the official result of the fight being a split decision, many fans felt that Resendiz was the clear winner in Las Vegas on Saturday night.

One YouTube user wrote, “Whoever gave the score to Caleb Plant needs to be fired. Another added, “This was not a real split-decision.”

Plant was also on the receiving end of some criticism from boxing fans. Other YouTube comments included, “Plant has never been the same after that loss from Canelo,” and “The beginning of the end for Plant.”

The fighter has now not won consecutive fights since 2021, as Plant’s win over Caleb Truax was his 21st consecutive win.
