Ben Whittaker’s promoter names three opponents in the mix for UK star’s next fight after Liam Cameron KO

Olympic silver medalist Ben Whittaker’s next fight is already in the works, just days after he knocked out Liam Cameron.

UK boxing star Ben Whittaker brought finality to his rivalry with Liam Cameron with a wild knockout finish last weekend. Just days later, Whittaker’s next boxing booking is already in the works, according to his longtime promoter.

Whittaker defeated Cameron by second-round TKO to remain unbeaten in his professional career last Sunday in Birmingham. It was a stark result after their first matchup ended in controversy following a Whittaker ankle injury after falling out of the ring.

After putting the Cameron rivalry in the rearview mirror and continuing his ascent up the sport, Whittaker is one of the top stars in British boxing. Such as it won’t be long until boxing fans see the Olympic silver medalist return to the ring.

Ben Whittaker targeted for September return against one of three different opponents

During a recent appearance on The Ariel Helwani Show, promoter Ben Shalom announced that Whittaker’s return is in the works for September and revealed Lewis Edmondson, Dan Azeez, and Willy Hutchinson are all potential opponents.

Edmondson, managed by Billy Joe Saunders, is unbeaten in his professional career through 11 fights. He most recently defeated Oluwatosin Kejawa by unanimous decision last month to retain the Commonwealth light heavyweight championship.

Azeez (20-2-1) hasn’t competed since a controversial loss to Edmondson last October by majority decision. After winning his first 20 pro fights, he’s winless over his last three appearances, including a draw against Hrvoje Sep.

Hutchinson lost a split decision to Joshua Buatsi in September that snapped a five-fight winning streak. Before the loss to Buatsi, Hutchinson defeated the likes of Craig Richards and Martin Houben.

As of this writing, none of the three names mentioned above have addressed a potential Whittaker fight since his victory. Meanwhile, Shalom is with Chris Eubank Jr. this week for his upcoming clash with Conor Benn this weekend.

Ben Whittaker criticized for post-fight altercation with Liam Cameron’s team after KO

Whittaker’s win over Cameron, while the result was final, didn’t come without some controversy associated with it. After the referee separated Whittaker from Cameron in the finishing sequence, Whittaker ran over to Cameron’s corner and screamed at Cameron’s coaches, prompting one of the coaches to nearly slap Whittaker in the confrontation.

Speculation originally pointed to Whittaker potentially spitting at Cameron’s team during the altercation, a claim that Whittaker has firmly denied. Of note, Whittaker and Cameron shared a cordial moment after their fight, turning the page on their rivalry.

Whittaker is one of boxing’s hottest young stars, and regardless of who he faces next in the ring, it’ll be under another high-profile spotlight.
