Ben Whittaker addresses spitting allegations after wild post-fight altercation with Liam Cameron’s team

UK boxing star Ben Whittaker was accused of crossing the line with Liam Cameron’s team after their rematch.

Ben Whittaker‘s return from ankle injury, stemming from his first fight with Liam Cameron, didn’t disappoint on Sunday in Birmingham.

Whittaker continued his unbeaten run to begin his career on Sunday against Cameron, finishing him in the second round with a barrage of punches against the ropes. But while Whittaker’s performance in the ring drew the initial headlines, his post-fight actions have been hotly discussed after a viral altercation with Cameron’s corner.

After Whittaker got his revenge against Cameron to provide finality to their rivalry, he didn’t hesitate to rub it in the face of Cameron’s corner. Just seconds after securing the finish, Whittaker ran over to Cameron’s corner and got in their faces, prompting one coach to slap Whittaker.

Ben Whittaker dismisses spitting allegations after Liam Cameron corner scuffle

The strong reaction from Cameron’s coach prompted some to speculate that Whittaker spat at them during their post-fight altercation, leading to the slap attempt. Luckily, security personnel were able to intervene quickly as cooler heads eventually prevailed.

After earning one of the biggest wins of his career, Whittaker was asked to clarify what happened with Cameron’s corner and whether or not he spat at them amidst the chaos.

During a post-fight interview with Sky Sports, Whittaker addressed the allegations.

“It was just the emotion, I was like: ‘Yeah, come on!’” Whittaker said. “If a bit of dribble came out… He knows I’d never do something like that.”

Whittaker and Cameron appeared to share a cordial post-fight moment after their fight. It was a 180-degree turn from the controversial end to their first matchup, in which Whittaker suffered a bizarre injury after falling out of the ring.

While things remained testy between Whittaker and Cameron’s sides after their rematch, Whittaker dismisses things escalating to a point of no return after the post-fight scuffle.

Ben Whittaker gets the last laugh in Liam Cameron rivalry

Whittaker will now pivot his attention towards securing big-name fights as he moves closer to entering the undisputed conversation. The talented 27-year-old defeated the likes of Leon Willings and Khalid Graidia before the back-to-back fights with Cameron.

Meanwhile, Cameron remains winless over his last three fights, including a controversial split decision defeat to Lyndon Arthur last June. Cameron’s last victory came against Hussein Itaba by first-round knockout in March 2024.

A third fight between Whittaker and Cameron could potentially take place down the line if Cameron goes on another impressive winning run. But for now, their rivalry is on the shelf, and Whittaker’s controversial post-fight taunts remain a hot topic of conversation.
