Anthony Joshua’s trainer likens Jake Paul fight to ‘robbing a bank’ as he criticizes obvious mismatch

Anthony Joshua is in advanced negotiations to face YouTuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul next.

It seems Anthony Joshua may well be sitting out 2025 after ongoing injuries have prevented a comeback return this year, following his KO loss to Daniel Dubois in late 2024.

A return to the ring was planned for the end of the year, though rumors of a fight with Jared Anderson, Jarrell Miller, Tony Yoka, Dillian Whyte, and more all seem to have gone out the window now that ‘The Problem Child’ is on the scene.

Eddie Hearn has already revealed the money Paul and AJ could make, and has even indicated that Paul vs AJ is bigger than AJ vs Tyson Fury.

As the biggest event in boxing gets ever closer to being made, Joshua‘s trainer Ben Davison has spoken out against the fight.

Ben Davison does not think Anthony Joshua vs Jake Paul will or should happen

In an interview with Boxing News, Joshua’s trainer Ben Davison sat down to discuss his upcoming fighter, Moses Itauma, vs Dillian Whyte.

After previewing the much-anticipated heavyweight contest, he was asked about the ongoing rumors surrounding AJ vs Paul.

Speaking on the fight, Davison said, “It’s a bit like, do you remember when… I think it was Floyd when he boxed McGregor, he was like ‘I’m robbing a bank’, he came out in the ski mask. There’s that, like, if they’re gonna pay him ridiculous money to do that then, you know, it’s gonna spark a bit of interest.”

He did suggest, though, that he does not think the fight will come to fruition, “Do I think it’ll happen? Probably not but in terms of the fight, like, Francis Ngannou is one of the most durable men on the planet and look what happened there. I don’t think it’s good for boxing if I’m honest.”

Davison spoke on the obvious mismatch of the fight, suggesting Joshua would have his way with Paul, “He could go in there and do what he wanted, he could play with him if he wanted to, or dispatch of him.”

Former UFC fighter, Molly McCann, accused AJ of selling his soul by taking the fight.

Ben Davison hints at the return of one of his fan-favorite fighters

Davison has built a name for himself with his extensive number of fighters, from Joshua to Itauma, Davison has his work cut out for him as a trainer.

Other names at the Davison gym include Cameron Vuong, Shabaz Masoud, Pat McCormack, Fabio Wardley, Aloys Jr., and Leigh Wood.

Wood’s last fight saw him lose by stoppage to Anthony Cacace, and the Nottingham fighter is seeking a return to the ring against one of his biggest rivals.

Davison spoke on Wood’s return, “The fight that stands out and makes sense is obviously the Josh Warrington fight.”

Wood stopped Warrington in 2023 after being outboxed for the first rounds of the fight.
