Amanda Serrano makes U-turn on Katie Taylor comments and teases potential trilogy

Katie Taylor and Amanda Serrano engaged in a thrilling battle on the undercard of Jake Paul’s controversial showdown with Mike Tyson last Friday.

The pair locked horns in front of 70,000 fans at the AT&T Stadium, Texas, with Taylor ultimately claiming a highly contentious split decision through 10 action-packed rounds.

Shortly after suffering her third professional defeat, though, Serrano accused the Irishwoman of landing intentional headbutts throughout the contest.

Katie Taylor, as it happens, was deducted a point in the eighth round for the reckless use of her head, but nonetheless produced a sensational performance to retain her undisputed super lightweight crown.

Amanda Serrano issues apology to Katie Taylor following Jake Paul vs Mike Tyson undercard clash

Regardless of the controversy surrounding their bout, the two icons of women’s boxing offered a vastly more captivating spectacle than the main-event that followed immediately after.

In truth, Jake Paul and Mike Tyson did little to engage the fans in attendance, or indeed the 60 million-plus viewers watching live on Netflix.

But thankfully, Taylor and Amanda Serrano’s rematch – following on from their first encounter back in 2022 – most certainly did not disappoint.

And yet, with Taylor now boasting two victories over her seasoned opponent, there is perhaps less of an incentive for the 38-year-old to roll the dice for a third time.

On the other hand, Serrano has since called for the opportunity to exact revenge on her rival, while also retracting any previous comments where she accused Taylor of cheating.

She wrote on X: “Congratulations to [Taylor] in her decision win. Tempers are flared when you’re in the heat of battle [and] you say things you shouldn’t say. I’m not one to ever disrespect an opponent [and] these were never my intentions to Katie.

“She [and] I are cool outside the ring and the best dance partners in the ring. In no way should I ever had said she did it purposely, it’s her style that makes for them.

“We both came out with our health intact [and] that’s what I prayed for. Whenever our teams can agree on a [trilogy] I’ll be ready.”

Will a trilogy between Katie Taylor and Amanda Serrano take place?

Throughout her illustrious career, Taylor has become a two-division undisputed queen and, alongside boxing legend Claressa Shields, is widely regarded as one of the greatest female fighters of all time.

And so, having already cemented her legacy, there is very little that the decorated operator has left to prove.

But still, while she is now considering a potential retirement plan, it is equally possible that Taylor may look to face Serrano in another monumental dustup.

After all, there is no dance partner – other than perhaps Chantelle Cameron, who shockingly defeated Taylor last year – that is more deserving of the opportunity.
